AlaskaETC
What a joke. Yeah...really strange. What's going on at DCA? It's NWS spotters that do it, right? Makes me think there's something institutional that goes on that affects these totals.
MacintoshPro
Why do we care about DCA numbers? Why should we care if they don't care to Do it right? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Cause when the news says DC got 18" its annoying when most of us got more like 2'.
gocaps
Here's my 30-hour timelapse of the storm from Kearneysville, WV: https://www.facebook.com/joshuawilcox/videos/10100237161883894/
BTRWx
Thought they were at 18 inches at 5pm? That verifies that. WPC must have rounded to nearest inch.
Kat
What a joke. Is that the airport or a storm report a mile from the airport?
BristowWx
About 30 inches in Gainesville, VA. Not a single lull luckily. Yep. Just about 30. Epic event and will never be forgotten. Never mixed, never stopped. And it's only January guys so the rest is gravy.
Symblized
HRRR gives me, the I-95 corridor between Harford County and DC, all of AA and Charles Co. MD and most of Fairfax and Prince William Co. VA an ADDITIONAL 3+" from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., with a smidgen more after that and with a few locations getting 4+". Ridiculous.
MacintoshPro
DCA is a joke... every single report 20"+ in Arlington, Alexandria, and DC and of course its 18.
BTRWx
I usually go conservative and probably under report many things but one thing I hate is stat padding. If others beat me and i'm lagging then so be it. Depending on where exactly you are BTR it could have been that the two of us got into the sweet stuff sooner? IDK. This stuff is so tricky at times I'm just off the Edsall road exit off I-

North Balti Zen
Nobody will ever convince me that the euro was better than the gfs this time. The NAM scored it's once every couple of years big victory. It will cause problems soon when we start thinking "remember what the Nam did with Jan 2016??" That euro run from , what, Wednesday? The one that went so far south? Yeah, euro had all sorts of consistency issues - gfs was pretty much a rock all week. RichmondTarHeel
28.3" at Dulles 7pm. Not believing that. I had 28" hours ago. I'm going to get an official snow board for next event.

Kat
For history? 2010 was more offensive. Most ppl in the city were well above DCA with their 17 inches. Anyway, not sure that was DCA, it was a spotter report.
dukeblue219
The DCA numbers aren't THAT far off my current depth. I just walked in from measuring in my (wide open) yard and nearby areas. The mode was about 20" current depth. This is a mile north of the downtown Silver Spring area. Couple spots with 24" that probably got some drift. Couple others with "just" 18. MacintoshPro
This is the classic DCA 75% rule. Shave 25% of the closest report to it, and bam, you've got DCA's total. Wednesday night: most places got at least 1 inches: DCA got 0.7. This storm: Most places get 24", DCA gets 18".
GirlForAllSeasons
Dca will call the storm over and stop measuring. You watch. Lol Hey Mitch - What do you have and do you know what the 7:00 PM report out of BWI was?
WinterWxLuvr
I am down to light snow now. I pulled off another 3/4 inch to finish the last band. I'm gonna say I get another 1/4 inch with this light stuff and call my storm total 39 inches. I may have hit 40. But in all honesty I dont know how to prove it. So 39 it is. I may not measure again. The NAM scored it's once every couple of years big victory. It will cause problems soon when we start thinking "remember what the Nam did with Jan 2016??" Frankly the Euro sucked with this storm. JonathanW
Report from the SnowHole 10 mi S of DC about 5:45: 16"-18" on multiple measurements on my flat driveway, away from the cars and using my super-scientific wooden yardstick with painted 1/8" gradations. I've lived here 40 years and 18", my previous record, still stands. Still snowing though so there is hope! It's one heck of a storm that drops 16-18" in the snow hole
