pazzo83
This storm is going get everyone to average or above in regards to snowfall. Record breaking insane December warmth followed by a massive blizzard is what I'm talking about. Hopefully we have a 105/85 type day in July. uncle W
I thought official measurements are six hours apart?...NYC was 6" at 7am...They should have a 1pm and 7pm measurement...it must be over 20" by now...maybe 24"?...
nzucker
The 24+" totals will be much more widespread than Boxing Day.I only measured 13" from Boxing Day in Dobbs Ferry...some said my total was low with nearby spotters reporting 16-18", but south-central Westchester sat in subsidence due to the mega band over New Jersey. The wind made it extremely hard to measure, and indeed I found the wind to be the more memorable aspect of that storm. This event extended much farther in coverage, with significant snow/ice all the way down to Arkansas and South Carolina. Although the northern edge was a bit more clipped than Boxing Day, the large Mid Atlantic and Southeast totals more than make up for it. Also, pretty much all of NYC metro is getting 20"+ today, as you note, whereas those amounts in Boxing Day were mostly in one megaband.

Hopefully we have a 105/85 type day in July. Even more impressive swing than going +8.8 in January 06 followed by the February blizzard. And toss a rare January Atlantic hurricane into the mix and you have a full tilt bonkers state of weather affairs.

pazzo83
My god. This doesn't want to stop lol It's insane. If the snowfall measurements in the park are remotely accurate, this should blow the record out of the water. We have to be pushing 30" here. SI Mailman
Just measured 20 inches on my back deck in Great Kills Staten Island. This would make it #3 for me behind Boxing Day (was the 30 inch jackpot) and '96 when I lived in Brooklyn.
