colonelaureliano1
Not a frequent poster, but I feel compelled to let everyone here know how much I have enjoyed the past week. My excitement for the next 36 hours is a personal thing, but the enthusiasm, knowledge, and sense of community on this board over the past several days is very much a group dynamic. And one for which we should all be very proud. I'm not much of a cyber/virtual reality guy, but I can't thank all of you enough for what you add here. Nothing more to add. Let it snow friends. Seconded, Ive been following you guys since the 2009-10 winter and while I generally avoid posting and have lost the info to like 3 accounts at this point between the old forum and the new one reading this forum is one of my favorite things to do before any major weather event. The information you guys have provided over the years has been absolutely indispensable. While I can't contribute in the way of meteorological analysis, I will be sure to take plenty of pictures for the picture thread with my fancy new camera. Grothar of Herndon
I have been outside since 2. 3 jebwalks with the kids, 2 driveway/sidewalk shovels and 3+" of snow. It has been pouring snow for over 2 hours and working on my 5th beer I am having fun Same here! Fook mixing, dry slot and sleet worries. Ain't no worries here, just smackdown snow. Grothar of Herndon
No beer for me this time. Entire household, myself included, have a respiratory infection. Shoveling should be a delight. Hate to hear that...hopefully the mixing, dry slot and sleet issues will save you from shoveling.
Grothar of Herndon
Had an Oban's 14 y.o. straight up. It was nice sipping and watching the snow. Crazy week. I don't want to stress about how much snow I am getting. As long as I can enjoy it in good health. That's enough. Have all the outside lighting on. It's beautiful. Super post! Cheers! Hope you get 3' plus.
Solak
Popping in from North Carolina to wish y'all well. We had quite the ice storm down here in NC. Lots of downed pine limbs once the winds started gusting. Stay safe and warm, y'all.
J.Mike
People need to back off DT - I absolutely feel for him - hugely frustrating. I feel for him too. The models promised 'widespread' 2' but looks like it gonna be a narrow band.
SabreAce33
Hate to hear that...hopefully the mixing, dry slot and sleet issues will save you from shoveling. Hah, thanks. To be honest, let it stay cold and crush me with 16+. I'd rather shovel than get mix and rain.

Amped
My son keeps asking, "is it 3ft yet?" No, not yet. Tell him to walk out and see if the snow is up to his chin.

Hank Scorpio
Shoveled, made dinner and then ate dinner, and finally now sitting down to enjoy my growler of Dark Hours from Lost Rhino. It's a big, fat, dark, chocolatey 10.7% imperial stout. Definitely a sipper.
ThePhotoGuy
My neighorborhood road has been plowed 3 times so far (once they did it with two plows going side by side). Really impressed by the contractors the county got.

CAPE
This Josh Merlot is pdg. On another note, its snowing moderately with 3" here so far, temp is 22, and a mega band is moving up from the south on radar.
CAPE
Genuinely feel bad for DT... He worked so hard for this one... Dude needs to move. He is practically in NC. Richmond, and esp south of there where he is, is a hideous snow hole 100 times worse than DC.
caviman2201
Question... how much snow can the average deck handle? I've never had an elevated deck before (mine was built summer before last) and I'm wondering how often I should be clearing it off. It's about 8'x20' and is supported by 3x 6x6's in concrete footers and lag bolts to the house. Thoughts?
Stradivarious
Will the tides be higher than normal, or lower than normal on the western shore during the storm? Anybody know?

Kay
Will the tides be higher than normal, or lower than normal on the western shore during the storm? Anybody know? Lower than normal in the upper Bay - we'll have blowout tides from the strong NE winds. Minor flooding possible in lower Bay, southern MD and south. clueless
Ppl are seriously sad for DT? Sarcasm right? Honestly, the way he portrays himself on the board is a bit over the top. It must be an act. Or not. If you are a regular joe trying to learn about the weather, most often he is not your guy. Obviously he is very RIC-centric - which can be grating to some folks here. I can't say I am sad. It is simply mother nature doing her thing.
mattie g
I flew 3000 miles home for a blizzard, but I ended up with a nasty cold. Hit me like a godd**m freight train this evening! Third cold in six weeks for both my wife and me...

It is simply mother nature doing her thing. Richmond (especially south of the city) is truly a hellish place to be a snow lover. Far enough north for the models to tease you constantly with snowstorms and the notion that you might be on par with DC, but ultimately too far south to really cash in with DC and doomed to turn to sleet and rain and watch DC (which is often a hellish snow hole itself) enjoy a big storm. I have long said they need to be in a separate forum or aligned with the SE forum. I know the averages, but when Richmond gets a good snow it often means DC is fringed and usually when DC gets a big snow it means RIC is slop or rain. At least in RDU they know most of the time they aren't getting snow and the models set that tone early on. RIC is teased a lot.
