nomanslandva
Looks more like snow here now but still a little noisy. flipping between 19 and 20f.
superjames1992
I think this band developing over the mountains/foothills will eventually shift towards your way after midnight and then eastern NC tomorrow morning. Thanks. I guess that's probably the band showing up on the RAP and HRRR, as well. It should definitely be snow, so I will make sure to enjoy it! burrel2
I've managed to add 1/2 inch of snow to my sleet pack over the last hour and it's still snowing lightly.

Poimen
30 with steady freezing rain. This has been a highly unusual day with somewhere between 1-2" of snow/sleet and .25" or more glaze.
HKY_WX
Thanks. I guess that's probably the band showing up on the RAP and HRRR, as well. It should definitely be snow, so I will make sure to enjoy it! THis is what you could call the "comma head" so I think we will see some decent accumulations out of it. downeastnc
Coastal really cranking now in the last hr the winds here have gotten pretty bad here in eastern Pitt Co, 20-25 sustained gusting 35-45 I bet....its a constant roar outside, I have a stand of large pines 200 yrds away and as I type this I can hear the roar of the wind in them..rain is finally let up over 2" in the rain gauge. jburns
Just walked inside. Was outside for about hour and it was like a thunderstorm except sleet was raging instead of rain. Never heard thunder. You might have been a few minutes late going outside. Had a couple of nice loud claps of thunder here about 6:20. I'm just a very few miles NE of you. You're definitely correct that the sleet was pouring down. I'm so glad I only had a small period of zr. Just enough to leave a glaze and right back to sleet. oconeexman
Steady light snow for a while now. About an inch on top of sleet pile. Still snowing=win
SnowDeac
CLT is about to get skipped by this band. Lancaster/Albemarle look to get hit hard. Hopefully snow rather than sleet, but probably not.
Regan Raleigh
And back to heavy sleet no zr. I'm surprised how heavy it is.
rawlee
no ZR here, all sleet. heavy. The Brier Creek line is in effect! Took awhile this storm. Just walked the dog, pretty gnar zr falling out there. NWish Raleigh, near Shelley Lake.
superjames1992
THis is what you could call the "comma head" so I think we will see some decent accumulations out of it. Sounds good! It won't take much more to put us over 6" at this point, and that would be a great storm in my book (it already is, even if it didn't have as much snow as I thought to this point). You might have been a few minutes late going outside. Had a couple of nice loud claps of thunder here about 6:40. I'm just a very few miles NE of you. You're definitely correct that the sleet was pouring down. I'm so glad I only had a small period of zr. Just enough to leave a glaze and right back to sleet. Maybe that is what I heard when I was shoveling the driveway, then. The sleet was so loud and I was concentrating on shoveling, so I wasn't sure what it was. And yes on the ZR. I don't think we ever went over to ZR here (I did not notice any accretion on the elevated surfaces), and I am very thankful for it, especially since it's pretty blustery out there, which would have made any ZR accretion that much worse. Anyways, sleet is coming down at a decent clip at the moment.
drfranklin
I've managed to add 1/2 inch of snow to my sleet pack over the last hour and it's still snowing lightly. thanks, we need some additional SC OBS - I suspect we may receive some snow accumulations overnight

NCSNOW
Thanks. I guess that's probably the band showing up on the RAP and HRRR, as well. It should definitely be snow, so I will make sure to enjoy it! We should see all snow on the next batch of echoes that come through in triad. Hopefully 1030 to 1100 is how it looks timing wise on radar.
rawlee
Now to heavy sleet, truly a Wake County special, this one.
WidreMann
In a lull right now, but before that, it was sleeting pretty decently with big fat pellets. I could see it accumulating. We have about 1.75" on the sidewalk.
CaryWx
The power outage line from southern and eastern Wake was creeping NW.
NCSNOW
If you'll use mossiac radar, even the slightest grey shading will produce. You can see the next batch or comma shape brandon is talking about rotating on the loop and time things pretty well. The mid layers should be cooler with this batch. Doesn't have the waa generating it like what we just had the past couple of hours.
LMA1973
It was killing sleet here right on the DurWake line for the last 20. Was that little blast it for the night?
WidreMann
The power outage line from southern and eastern Wake was creeping NW. That's not how power outages work. My friend in south Raleigh reports sleet at her place. They were having power problems before after a decent bit of ZR.
