Warm Nose
Just heard an airliner over head. I can't believe that are still flying. https://flightaware.com/live/ Dulles has a heated runway and is trying to get international flights out. Scarlet Pimpernel
DCA is cracking 20 by a sizeable margin I'm hoping they do, finally, at that location. I think relatively speaking they're doing better than around the same point during Snowmageddon. This time, the ground (and air) was much colder from the start compared to then...so it stuck right away unlike Feb. 2010.
DCAlexandria
lady on channel 4 said she's experiencing 75% sleet on the mall. i have my doubts on that lol, but maybe she's right idk. whatever. she's a moron, those are rimmed flakes at worst. mitchnick
For those who still care about model runs in the middle of the storm (me), here is the GFS snow output. Looks like the NAM won and GFS now puts the snow well into PA.
wxdude64
OK, got another 6.6 in past 6 hour period ending at 11pm, makes a total of 14.1 since storm started in morning. 13.5 on the ground. Still snowing, temp is 21.9/DP 20.2. Total liquid for day so far is 1.36, just a touch over a 10-1 ratio.
MacintoshPro
http://weather.cod.edu/satrad/nexrad/index.php?type=LWX-N0C-1-24 Good news: Its moving east Bad news: Its also moving NORTH I think the HRRR has it right... West of 95 is all snow, East is changeover. Near is a toss up
Amped
You can see the line of consistent eqos working back to the NW no along pikes ridge. Anywhere SE of that line is solid rates, we have had some lulls in the past few hours back in northern MD.
MillvilleWx
We need as many deathbands as possible to cycle through. Produce produce produce. It is gorgeous out here. The radar is gorgeous. The best part is the fact the storm is just getting going down in southern NC. The mid level frontogenesis with this system is going to be sweet and it's already becoming evident on the Meso Analysis to our south and even one right along the Mason Dixon. Looking amazing my friend. Enjoy!!

SomeguyfromTakomaPark
Don't want to be that guy, but what do the experts see in regards to dry slotting? Who's at risk? Has been discussed a lot over the last 24 hours. Read through the storm thread. Summary, northern/western areas probably won't dryslot as much and will do better in deform, DC and points northeast and east may dry slot for a period. I seriously doubt that. She's probably getting those sleet-like flakes. I have heard no reports of sleet north of a line from Stafford County to St. Mary's. Jebman
Visibility is going up markedly. Wind is blowing some snow but there is more graupel here in Dale City. I'll take graupel. Just please dont let that sleet any farther west. Is that really too much to ask? lol
Kmlwx
Just measured 7 inches storm total so far here in Colesville, MD - rates getting good. Bob Chill - can you verify you're around the same? Took like 4 measurements and all were within a quarter inch or so of 7.
IUsedToHateCold
Eyeballing about 8 inches, 2" in the last 75 minutes. Crazy rippage, the east is getting pummeled! Let's hope we can keep that sleet away.
snowfan
This storm should remind us that with most of these big storms areas to the north usually do well. Seems to me that the euro didn't handle the northern extent of the precip too well.

Summary, northern/western areas probably won't dryslot as much and will do better in deform, DC and points northeast and east may dry slot for a period. I've read about all of that. I just didn't know if the current radar/short term models were giving any clues yet. I wouldn't really know what to look for. Seems every dry spot on the radar is filling up between Richmond and DC to my untrained eyes.
osfan24
I feel like the dryslot has looked a ton better on recent runs than it did, say, early today. It seems like a nonissue around 95 and west of there.
EastCoast NPZ
11 PM. 3rd hour in a row with snow so light it's barely visible. Doesn't look like I've picked up even a 1/2 inch in the past 3 hours. Wind blowing so hard, I doubt I could measure it anyway.

Bob Chill
Folks, use this link if you don't already have a favorite. It tells you exactly where the sleet is. Loop if for getting an idea if trajectory. Bright yellows are sleet.
