southmdwatcher
Looks like sleet. I would assume DT's comments and the yellows on radar indicate that area has sleet.
BlizzardNole
Lulz at kids -- my 14-yr-old just said "it already stopped, is that all we're getting?" Short lull for now; about 2.5"; a nice 21 degrees (the temps have been great for this).
Kmlwx
Seems to be a significant amount of dry air working into the storm? Wut? This is one heck of a juicy storm. What are you looking at?
Scraff
Really picking up here. Larger flakes moving in with this next band. Radar really starting to juice. 20 degrees with moderate snow. Nice looking band. Heading my way too. Please push it along. Thanks. ;-)
mitchnick
FYI, I stumbled onto the new Unisys radar....pretty decent vs. the old one http://weather.unisys.com/radar/hires_rad.php?image=rad&inv=0&t=l3®ion=at

mattie g
I honestly feel bad for our brothers down south. I really do. But we all know that, in order for general DC metro to get crushed, they need to get screwed. General idea, but based in reality.
DTWXRISK
given how badly every model has already busted I dont think I will see snow of any significance I see the Facebook trolls already after you DT. RIC could still see over a foot depending on the deathbands, no?
caviman2201
21z RAP at hr 18 with its snow accums is silly... 15-20" of snow by 09z DC Metro region That 2.5"/hr band at 11p-ish looks incredible...

Bob Chill
Took a 3 mile dog walk. 2.4" when I got back at 5:30. Rates we're great at the beginning but tapered. Picking up again.
clskinsfan
Since that last heavy band came through. It has just been steady light snow. I will take another measurement at 7. I cant wait to get a piece of that deform band.

MacintoshPro
I don't think 5" by 7 at DCA is doable, although 4" can certainly be done. I'm approaching 3" right now in N. Arlington.

Jebman
Im in Independent Hill area, maybe 8 miles or so SE of you. This IS AWESOME. Working with about 4 inches or so. At least 4.5 inches. This stuff is going to be very hard to measure after that damn wind comes up.........

Scarlet Pimpernel
Moderate snow coming down again, after letting up for a time. ~2.8" on the ground as of 5:45PM. So calm and peaceful out with a snow cover...I'm sure later on tonight the winds will be picking up.

It's mostly 40N that's benefitting at Richmond's expense.

Random Chaos
I'm reporting too! Should I do it every hour I don't even try with snow storms - I get so much ridiculous drifting with anything more than 5mph winds over my entire property that I can't find a location to even set up a snow board. Scarlet Pimpernel
At least 4.5 inches. This stuff is going to be very hard to measure after that damn wind comes up......... Nice! I guess when the winds really pick up it's a matter of measuring in several locations and either taking a straight average or the mode of all the measurements. It will be difficult, but surely a burden we can all gladly manage!
crazywx
At least 7 and maybe 8 inches in Tuckahoe which is an area maybe 10 miles north and west of Richmond's center. The heaviest snow I have seen during the storm is occurring now along with some sleet. It has pretty much been snowing at a rate of 1 inch per hour since 10:30AM.
