mixed sleet / frozen rain here in RVA, been this way since 5. Why were the models so wrong?

It looks like the NAM was right with its northward extent. This meant not much for the DC area, as we were still getting pummeled either way, but the NAM changed RIC earlier and gave NYC snow as well.

I can vouch for the sleet here in Spotsylvania. I'm approx 5 miles east of Locust Grove. Its the loudest sleet I have ever heard, but there is alot of snow starting to force it's way back in around these parts

Looks like you're right on the line between sleet/snow. It's running sw/ene across the Potomac into southern md.

Starting to rip again, dendrite structure is much improved compared to the past couple hours.  Areas from CHO to EZF and north of the IP line are getting smoked, that band looks to be the climax of the front end dump. Winds continuing to increase here which works well for the drifting enthusiasts.
