chietanen
So the 18z GFS would be nice lol... 8-12" for many here, with little if any changeover, and 2 separate storms The GFS started its weekend a little early it appears.

Despite what some people are saying... A weaker LP, stronger eastern kicker, gives us moderate, back to back events as oppose to 1 major event, with a snow to rain slop... Wouldn't be he first

Wouldn't be he first I'm not sure but I believe this is a similar setup to Valentine's Day two years ago. HV did very well in that one on front and backend with long lull in between. NorthShoreWx
Valentine's Day 2014 was a great storm here. I had 16 inches. Almost 14" here. That one was really unique because after the changover, we had freezing rain while there was plain rain in NW NJ and Orange County, which really frosted some weenies. Still not sure why or how that happened, but North Central LI stayed at or below freezing all day in some anomalous little bubble of cold air. HV did very well in that one on front and backend with long lull in between. One of my favorite storms here. Ended up with over 20". Had something like 10-11" on the front end, then a lull, then round 2 overnight. During the night, a mesolow formed over our area and really enhanced snowfall rates. http://www.nycareaweather.com/archives/february-13-2014/

I remember we already had a big snowpack, so this one just added to it. Incredibly deep and long lasting snow depth that winter. Pretty cold too. White Gorilla
A very dynamic system with tremendous lift. Really enjoyed the convective snow with the upper and meso lows. It was ripping during the night of the 13th and waking up to the deepest snowpack I have seen in years was just awesome. White Gorilla
Also remember hearing a downpour of mixed precipitation before it turned to ripping snow. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
chietanen
The HRRR, RGEM, and NAM all drop much of our area to zero or below by 5 pm tomorrow.

We had 10 inches from the front end of that storm and 11 on the back end. No one in Orange County felt gyped getting 21 inches of snow.
chietanen
While we wait to see what the GFS has up it's sleeve, a nice depiction of the polar express. Front is currently across western NY.
LaGrangewx
Valentine's 2014 best storm had here hands down in 10+ years. 9 round 1. 14 round 2 in 5 hours. Total 23 with a depth of 32.

chietanen
The GEM would be a major ice storm if it played out as modeled. I doubt that will be the case with warm air rushing in aloft. I think we see more snow to ice then quickly to rain, but check out these totals:
UlsterCountySnowZ
If GGEM is right, it's 6-10" of paste for many with 1+ of crust on top... I'd take that

snywx
Ive always liked the MSV area for this one. Sullivan county looks to be ground zero. They deserve it! They have been getting the shaft long before us

Juliancolton
Picked up a dusting overnight. NWS giving me -10F for tonight, which is nothing less than astonishing given how mixed-out the BL will be. The HRRR gets most of us below zero by 5 pm. This is manly cold - just a shame it's so short-lived.
