Casualbrain
The current models may be under estimating QPF - they don't always take into account a regional snowpack. Vapor cold be colder and more widespread.

Casualbrain
You might need to run that one by me one more time. I'm obviously not a pro, but it's my understanding that snow cover can affect model outputs. Not sure if NAM/GFS model initialization includes snow cover along with local station and sounding readings. high risk
They have different methods, but the NAM and GFS do initialize snow cover. eurojosh
Second system goes poof - actually more like 'splash' - on the 12z. Too progressive with the LP, which gets precip out of the area before the cold front arrives.

Kmlwx
Well, to be fair, that energy isn't being sampled correctly and won't be until it comes ashore. Satellites do a very good job of filling in for upper air balloons in areas where they are not available. Reference dtk and the other mets that have discussed this. In all likelyhood it's probably more a factor of it 1) being far out in time and 2) Our big storm for this weekend hasn't even occurred yet. eurojosh
Storm 2 is back on the 18z. Still a Rainer for the cities, snow far N and W, but improved from the prior run and now around 200hrs away. Greedy much?
Kat
Storm 2 is back but a GL low is ruining the thermal profile. Let's see if that low disappears in later runs.
