It is funny to me how Dr. No has lost it's title to the GFS. Last year the GFS was our friend and Dr. No was evil. :devilsmiley:

Unless I am completely wrong did the GFS not handle the last two systems rather well?

Looking forward to the radio show tonight, although the last radio show in March brought 7" of snow and only 1" stuck.:lol:

I can't remember if it was the feb or march snowstorm but the gfs was the only model for quite a long time showing a miss here. It had the low even going to cuba at one point, while the other models had it, correctly, much further north.

if this is the only snow i get, i would definately be fine with it. hopefully GA,AL,MS and north gets a nice snow.

EDIT: also id be careful with the models they blew the last one. we got so much ice here in n ga and caused atleast 1,000 wrecks and spin outs in the atlanta area alone.

Actually there wasn't a whole lot of ice. I think most areas got 0.20" or less. Much less ice than some previous icestorms over the last 10 years.

It was the Feb storm, and I remember clinging to the "NW trend" mantra for the GFS. Anyone know (or want to make up) a bias that would make the GFS unreliable in this situation? :P

that was what you call a very low amount but very high impact event lol. it was less than .10" across a lot of ne ga, but with the cold roads and temps that little amount made it a skating rink across much of n ga. i cant believe how aggressive my nws forecast is right now for christmas day. it makes me nervous since so much can change, esp when the two more 'preferred' models dont show the same thing

Do you have one for the rest of the SE? Thanks

Well I will if we get close to the event and it still looks good. My site is NC Sandhills focused so that is why the coverage is not beyond NC. Don't worry I know you guys are out there :)

Thanks. Trust me, it's not that me and sean think we're badasses now but these threads will NOT go down the same road we went down last year.

You guys have been fantastic. You both have helped tremendously and I certainly am grateful for it, as I'm sure everyone else is too.

This is OT, but with a brief break in the inaction, I'd like to address the copyright issue for folks who may not have much background or understanding of it.

Some pay sites and a growing number of sites that copyright their material are looking at legal action as the means for FINALLY making money on Web content. As soon as they locate another site that uses their material without reimbursement, they begin hounding that site's owners for money. The owners may pay them, go to court, where they ultimately will lose or shut down their sites.

So, when board mods (on any board, not just here) remove pay site material, it's not just because they want to be hard cases. There's a very real logic behind the decision.

And now, on with the snow.

You aint the only on e brother. You remember the last time we went under a winter weather warning?? We were suicidal :devilsmiley:

I'm very nervous and at this point only expecting a dusting or see some fall on Christmas day and would be very happy with that.

BUT, the weenie in me is trying it's dangdest to come out cause we could be the jackpot this time.....but my gut says "you know better"

will continue to monitor the board as usual and enjoy Lookout and now Queencity popping caps in some rooks!

From GSP...

MAXIMUM CHRISTMAS SNOWFALL:

AT GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG...2.0 INCHES IN 1947 AND 1909

1.0 INCHES IN 1962

IF WE DEFINE A WHITE CHRISTMAS AS HAVING AT LEAST ONE INCH OF SNOW

ON THE GROUND DURING CHRISTMAS DAY...THEN THE YEAR 1962 WOULD NOT

COUNT BECAUSE THE OBSERVED SNOW DEPTH WAS ONLY A TRACE BECAUSE THE

SNOW MELTED AS IT FELL. HOWEVER...IN 1963 THERE WAS STILL AN INCH OF

SNOW ON THE GROUND AT GSP FROM A STORM THAT MOVED THROUGH ON

DECEMBER 23RD. THEREFORE...THE CLIMATE RECORD THAT DATES BACK TO

1884 INCLUDES THREE INSTANCES OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS THAT WE KNOW

OF...1909...1947...AND 1963.

AT CHARLOTTE...5.8 INCHES IN 1947

4.0 INCHES IN 1880

0.2 INCHES IN 1909

IN THE AFOREMENTIONED 1963 EVENT...CHARLOTTE HAD ONE INCH OF SNOW ON

THE GROUND ON 24 DECEMBER...BUT THAT SNOW MELTED TO A TRACE ON

CHRISTMAS DAY. IN 1962...ONLY A TRACE OF SNOW FELL AT CHARLOTTE ON

THE 25TH. IF THE 1909 EVENT DOES NOT COUNT BY DEFINITION...THAT

LEAVES US WITH TWO INSTANCES OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS THAT WE KNOW OF...

1880 AND 1947. THE CLIMATE RECORD FOR CHARLOTTE DATES BACK TO 1878.

AT ASHEVILLE...5.4 INCHES IN 1969

3.4 INCHES IN 1947

2.0 INCHES IN 1981

0.4 INCHES IN 1993...1975...AND 1970

0.3 INCHES IN 1962 AND 1915

0.1 INCHES IN 1935 AND 1909

SINCE 1902...THERE HAVE BEEN SIX INSTANCES OF A WHITE CHRISTMAS AT

ASHEVILLE. THERE WAS AT LEAST ONE INCH OF SNOW ON THE GROUND ON

CHRISTMAS DAY IN 1947...1963...1969...1981...1993...AND 2009.

Bingo..and I just gave him a permanent vacation.

I love it!! It's hard as hell reading through 19 pages and have to see the stupid questions asked by these morons annoys me to no end. Shut your piehole and just read already and enjoy what our METS and posters with real wx knowledge have to say.

And my question to you is, would you do the radio show if asked?? Just curious.
