tamarack
Coldest absolute temps in almost 6 decades is pretty impressive. Coldest February temps in over 8 decades. At least at many of the stations down in SNE. I know NNE didn't quite get the core of that shot unless we include maybe central and southern VT to S NH. It's historically very rare to have such an intense single cold shot in an otherwise overall mild winter. Nitpick: 7 decades for Feb, since 1943, though that year's -14 might not be at Logan. About 50/50 depending on tonight's low and Sun-Mon highs whether Farmington notches its mildest met winter in the past 123 years. Current champ is 1932-33, 2nd is 2001-02 and that one's almost certainly sliding back to #3.
CapturedNature
I just wanted to let you guys know that after 3 years of unemployment, and 100's of resumes and applications I have finally landed a job...a good one. Many of you have known the struggles I faced of trying to get my own business's going during these 3 years, but the money being made was no where near enough to survive. Such is the nature of where I live and the field of work that I went to school for. As a licensed architect, there just is not a huge need for my services here. Trying to sell real estate has been helpful but again, not survivable income. Hopefully this will be a positive in what was a sea of negative for so long. Congrats man! I know the feeling and it feels good to turn a corner like that. Enjoy it!

OceanStWx
Wow. That is cool. Digging a little deeper into the physics behind it, it's the same mechanism that makes wires hum or sing in the wind. Picture the island there is actually looking down the length of the wire. As each vortex sheds off it, it vibrates, and at the right frequency we can hear it.

Then I checked my FB and saw porn you requested Eric make on my FB page. I quickly deleted it as my grandkids are on my FB page and surely didn't need to see the porno subtitles. OceanStWx
no trough like Chris said. It's my background I just keep staring at it I did see the drone in that shot. But think about those waves, 18-20 second periods probably shortened up some in the shallows. The Waimea buoy a few miles off shore was still in that 18-20 second range, so let's say worst case still talking maybe 12-14 seconds. That means as you sit on your surf board you're rising up the face of the wave for like 6-7 seconds before dropping into the next trough. That's a long time. Just count it out in your head.
