thess
I have thrown together a quick newb/lurker guide for this event: 1) I don't know the acronyms! http://www.americanwx.com/bb/index.php/topic/29651-weather-references-and-newbie-information/ 2) I want to know how much snow I'll get in my backyard! We all do. As a casual observer, I strongly encourage you NOT to ask in the storm thread. 3) I want to know if X flight will be cancelled! Go to the official site of the airport in question. 4) Who is Robert? https://www.facebook.com/WxSouth/ 5) No really, how much snow/ice will I get in my zipcode? You will probably not know for sure until it's on the ground.
magpiemaniac
Duke Energy's estimates for this weekend's storm: Greensboro - 6" to 12" of wet snow with ~25,000 outages Triangle area (including points north of Raleigh) - 1/4" to 3/8" ice with ~65,000 outages
Cold Rain
Well, we knew the south trend would end at some point and the north trend would begin didn't we? Always happens.

Shawn
Hm, looks to pop the secondary close to Myrtle Beach.. icy run for many. Will let whoever else continue with better details/maps. By hour 66, CLT should be transitioning to more snowy.

Shawn
Well thankfully Columbia could get a mix/backend snow as it pulls away. Worried about moisture in the snow growth though.. probably too dry.

BrandonInSC
ATL and Columbia rejoice! backend snow! 2 inches or so around atl proper. good stuff. I'm afraid of another ice mess and since it's the weekend I wouldn't even get a weather day lol. The northern midlands and upstate can keep that. Brick Tamland
The jackpot zone on the 12z Euro is south of Roanoke. That is a bit south of last night, when the northern Shenandoah Valley looked the best. DC steps back to "only" 20" or so on this run. Also, RDU and CLT never go above freezing on this run. GSO is mostly in the mid-20s. So, I assume we can expect RAH to issue Winter Storm Watches with this afternoon's packages?

The northern midlands and upstate can keep that. you know.. the canadian and euro are both dangerously close giving CAE proper an icy mess. This time of the year.. late jan.. we tend to get our ice storms historically. feb 10th+ brings snowier solutions to us.
