MattPetrulli
As 2016 rings in, thought I'd make a severe weather discussion forum for the New Year. Severe weather doesn't seem likely through Mid January for now.
salbers
Except maybe near New Orleans on Jan 10th?
MattPetrulli
As of 12z GFS run, potential exists for a few tornadoes in the Carolinas and Georgia this Sunday. Uncertainty regarding the models though. Soundings aren't the best, but do support a few tornadoes. CAPE is approaching 1k in that area, and LLJ and Bshear are also supportive. Msalgado
Except maybe near New Orleans on Jan 10th? Ha, would be ironic considering thats when and where AMS's annual meeting is this year.
MattPetrulli
Ha, would be ironic considering thats when and where AMS's annual meeting is this year. Yeah, that would be. To Sunday's severe setup: Latest models just erased that setup... so yeah. But they do introduce a risk for a severe thunderstorm or 2 across the deep MS valley on Saturday. Nothing big, maybe a very brief/weak tornado or 2.

Jason WX
We could see a fairly active severe wx season if a La Nina comes around..

MattPetrulli
Slight risk tomorrow for Florida. 5% tornado risk. Looks like an okay tornado day, typical El Nino setup,
