Snow has commenced here...

DTX update

.UPDATE... THE WINTER STORM IS JUST BEGINNING TO AFFECT EXTREME SOUTHERN MI WITH ADG COMING IN WITH LIGHT SNOW IN THE LAST HOUR. BL IS STILL QUITE DRY WITH SFC DEWPOINTS IN THE UPPER TEENS TO LOW 20S WHICH HAS BEEN EFFICIENTLY EATING AWAY AT THE LEAD EDGE OF THE INITIAL BAND THIS MORNING. IWX RADAR SHOWS POCKETS OF DRY AIR INCREASING IN COVERAGE OVER THE LAST COUPLE HOURS AS WELL. THIS IS LIKELY DUE TO INCREASING SUBSIDENCE OVER THE AREA AS THE SECOND...MORE INTENSE BAND OF MOISTURE DEVELOPS ACROSS SOUTHERN IN. THROUGH MONITORING OBS AND HIRES MODELS OVER THE LAST FEW HOURS...CONFIDENCE IS INCREASING THAT WE WILL SEE A FEW HOURS WORTH OF SNOW AT THE ONSET AS OPPOSED TO BRIEF POP OF SNOW QUICKLY CHANGING TO FZRA/PL. WET BULB TEMPS CONTINUE TO BE LOW ENOUGH THAT EVAPORATION IS PREVENTING THE MID LEVELS FROM WARMING AS FAST AS PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT. SO HAVE GONE AHEAD AND ADDED MENTION OF SNOW TO THE FORECAST WITH ACCUMULATIONS UP TO AN INCH IN THE ADVISORY AREA AND UP TO 2 INCHES FURTHER NORTH ACROSS THE WARNING AREA. NO ADJUSTMENTS TO HEADLINES ATTM.

1.9" so far. Still snow. Winds are more NE than E here. Wondering if that's making a difference with the cold air transport.

A bit surprised you've been all snow so far. Started as mostly sleet less than 10 miles south of you and remains mostly sleet. No pingers mixed in at all yet, even during the lighter stuff? According to SPC, critical thickness lines have been holding pretty steady, so current precip types should hold for awhile longer.

In the last 30 minutes, there's been a little noise on the windows at times. It's more than 90% snow still. Keeps on going back and forth between small and large flakes. There's been some flakes 1" across at times.

FWIW: the rpm keeps us a mix or snow until 9pm, and then over to snow. Rain south of Lake Forest into the city.

I-94 counties upgraded to a WSW. Temps holding at 25° with IP/ZR. Just a glaze so far. Expecting between one and three tenths.

GRR noted the southern counties wouldn't be near freezing until sunset. I think the most significant icing will occur up near GRR and LAN where temps hold under freezing longer. Who knows, maybe enough dynamic cooking will keep everyone below freezing longer than expected.
