snowstormcanuck
As an eastsider in Detroit proper, that has been an issue (or a saving grace IMO) plenty of times, in the same way Lake Michigan does it for Alek. Your body of water takes away snow via temps but never compensates with LES. Jerk setup.
snowstormcanuck
20/8 under partly cloudy skies. About 8 hours to go before I see my first flakes.
Mogget
The wind has really picked up. When precip started it was 15 mph gusting to 18 mph. Now it's 25 mph and gusting toward 30--shifting over about a 40 minute period.

Natester
I may have received an inch of snow between 5-8am, but it has gone over to at least a sleet mix. Dual-pol radar, reports to the south, and models suggest we'll be at least mixed through mid afternoon, if not all sleet. I'm getting sleet mixed in with snow also. When I woke up, it was all snow. EDIT: Back to all snow now.
RyanDe680
Pretty windy drive in to Oak Brook. Lots of sleet, but roads were just wet. Untreated driveways however, different story.

Natester
Super heavy snow right now. Unfortunately, we're likely going to get dry slotted within the next hour or two until the next wave hits.
King James
Things have gotten a lot more icy here in the last hour around the SW burbs of Chicago near 80. Someone said 80/20 frz rain / ice pellets...sounds about right for my neck of the woods as well. Wind pinging the pellets off the glass

cyclone77
Heaviest freezing rain of the event so far. Coming down quite nicely, with some sleet still mixing in a bit as well. 31.2 degrees.
SchaumburgStormer
28° with light snow here. Looks like 3/4" I cannot say with confidence what it is doing outside, but I definitely isn't snow. Looks like a majority freezing rain mix.
blizzardof96
The HRRR is hinting at a shallow antecedent LE band stretching from Mississauga to Burlington. If it does materialize, KC radar will have a tough time picking it up. Timing is between 20z-0z. Also, it is all snow from Etobicoke on east through the end of its run. 0.2-0.4" of QPF. Geos
I cannot say with confidence what it is doing outside, but I definitely isn't snow. Looks like a majority freezing rain mix. If you can hear it, it's sleet. Radar would suggest that.
SchaumburgStormer
If you can hear it, it's sleet. Radar would suggest that. It's an odd mix. I would say 80:20 freezing rain to sleet. Something I can say I haven't seen with any regularity
hawkeye_wx
It's a battle between sleet and snow over here. The line is wavering near Cedar Rapids. I'm back to mostly snow now. The HRRR continues to insist the warm layer will win out and advance northward across eastern Iowa through afternoon. Update: 5 minutes later the sleet has moved back in. cyclone77
Maybe more sleet than freezing rain? Dear god, I have no freaking idea. I will shut up, haha. Haha. Sometimes it's kinda hard to tell. I think I've been underestimating how much sleet is actually mixed in. It's probably been more like 50/50 based on lack of glazing relative to the precip intensity/duration. Probably around 0.10" or so of glazing so far. Right now I think it's more sleet than freezing rain. If it stays this way we may come out of this in decent shape, as temps should be above freezing by 2-3pm. tuanis
If you can hear it, it's sleet. Radar would suggest that. Lovely mix of sleet and snow in Libertyville - drive into work was a little dicey in spots. The further south I drove (working in Rosemont), the clearer the roads. Hoping for some sleet, little to no ice accretion (sick of dealing with downed tree limbs), then some rain to wash it all away. That's pretty much how i expect this storm to go, at least in terms of precip. Live cam: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/libertyville-snow
