Geos
NAM coming in a little interesting. First wave goes by pretty far NW, then the second wave comes in farther East and with a little snow on the backside of the low.

Geos
NAM in its longer ranges showing a different solution than the consensus=toss. I think one of the older GEM runs had some snow near your area. Very unlikely solution, but fun to entertain/look at.
hawkeye_wx
The 00z nam taking a pretty good jump east with the main low is probably a toss-out. The UK has always been nw and the euro has trended that way as well.
Hoosier
Sure have had a number of windy systems in recent weeks. This one looks no different. Haven't dug into it too much yet but looks like possible advisory criteria with potentially an opportunity of near warning criteria gusts.
Geos
The difference in the snow band between the GFS and NAM is pretty funny. It looks like someone took the cut tool and took the snow band out! And then the NAM

Geos
Kansas and Nebraska are really lighting up now. NAM inching snow closer to Bo.
hawkeye_wx
I picked up 0.55" of rain overnight, about what was expected. Our heaviest batch of rain should arrive this evening. An area just west of Waterloo received up to 3" last evening.

Geos
Rain, rain, rain here. Not heavy or anything though. Yeah I think Bo has some more hope now. 4km NAM NMM
Geos
0.65" here at 9:30. 4km NAM still showing snow for Upper Michigan and for NW WI, Twin Cities metro. It's going to bust in Nebraska and Iowa. Heaviest total have been coming out of KS so far. 6-8" A really cold rain over most of Nebraska, even though winter radar indicate it should snowing in the south central part. Hoosier
Hard to think the NAM would completely whiff on the snow idea this close in.
Chitown Storm
MPX not buying into the NAM. Maybe a brief changeover to mixed precip, otherwise pure liquid. Complete bust today on the rain. Most models had between 1-2" for the TC metro. I've received about 0.15" today. The convection to the south seems to have pulled this thing to the east. DaveNay
Just came in from doing chores...with the heavy rain, warm south breeze and still green grass, you could easily mistake it for early May out there tonight.

hawkeye_wx
2.46" total rain here. Des Moines got 3.6". Ames and Waterloo each got 4". I think some of these 36 hr totals from central to northeast Iowa are near records for the entire month of December. It got quite windy early this morning when the front came through. The Cedar Rapids airport gusted to 58.
Geos
Only 1.15" here in total. Not the 2" predicted on most models. Now ARX over achieved with rainfall. Widespread 4" amounts - even up to 6" in Vernon County! You would expect that in spring or summer, but in December! https://nwschat.weather.gov/p.php?pid=201512141511-KARX-NOUS43-PNSARX
