We're talking about measurable snow, not some flakes flying around in the air. Who here has measurable snow, when and how much?

Well really the only shot for any snow was on October 18, where most of us just had flurries. Like snwyx said, Animal had some accumulation up by him, just not sure how much.

But yeah, I guess you can say measurable snow has yet to be seen in many places.

Pretty sure animal saw between a coating and a few tenths of an inch. Otherwise, not much besides flurries or show showers for some others on the extreme east end of LI and some of the NW burbs.

There is extreme instability over the lakes right now with the still very warm waters and the mid level cold over it. The cameras up there were showing strong convection earlier with cumulus congestus cloud streets forming over the lake. Not surprising that there is lightning and thunder reports. Buffalo is going to get dumped on. Very favorable winds, no shear, cold and surface frictional convergence/lifting onshore. The bands are very impressive with heavy snowfall rates. The skew-T soundings up there are nuts the higher elevations should see feet from the orographic enhancing

I'm selfishly rooting for the first snowless winter on record due to its rarity from a meteorological perspective.

If the pattern never changes, then it could happen but there could always be a sneaky system like in 01/02 and there's plenty of time for it to snow.

No measurable snow for this area, even along the coast, has to be a 1 in 500 year event, at the least.  Probably more anomalous from a statistical perspective than Sandy.

They are supposed to

And ironically the waves were amazing today in long beach. Head high clean barrels most fun day since October

And the most amazing thing were the palm trees at Malibu were still alive!!!!

I almost forgot the general rule about this sub-forum.... If it didn't happen either in NYC or within view of the skyline, it didn't happen.

Actually the outer Boroughs might agree with you if you changed NYC to 100-102 and had your butt to the battery facing North.

Park Slope Brooklyn might disagree, at least until the next Mayoral Election.

the winter of 1877-78 got its first snowfall on 1/4/1878...it would go on to have only one snowfall after that on 1/31/78...some old newspapers from that date...The Brooklyn Eagle is a small article and hard to find...

Getting no snow in a winter season would never happen. I don't care how bad of a setup mother nature throws at us. Unlike the summer, we have different wavelengths during winter. There are just too many moving parts to contend with i.e. jet stream, frontal boundaries, and temperature gradients to name a few. Heck all you need is a cold front and with some proper lifting you can get a quick hitting event.

CFS shows no snow on the ground here (NYC) till Jan. 14, same as yesterday.   Gonna keep tabs out for changes in this  output.  As for temperatures, Accuweather paints no below temperatures (mean temp.) here for exactly one more month! Jan. 18!!! which would make a total of possibly 7 straight weeks!!!!!!!!!!

If we get to that date and there's still the big SE ridge and vortex over the pole, it's time to pull the plug
