Central PA Snowfall Contest

Recommended Posts

Decided to take the contest into another forum to get rid of the clutter in the main sub-forum thread. All contest predictions and anything related to the contest itself will be posted in here. I will be updating the totals on here after every larger event (>= 4") as well as at the end of each month. Totals will be updated daily in the excel file and will provide verification if necessary.

Hope to see some good snowfall totals in the future. A winner will be crowned on April 1st and proclaimed as PA snowfall King until next contest. Good luck everyone!!

All entries are now in the contest thread. Those of you who made changes to JST (my apologies), they have been correctly entered into the file and corrected in this thread. Any anomalies, please PM me or post in here and I'll make the correction, Thanks!!

Awesome! Great job, and I can't wait to see how things play out over the winter.

Just a reminder to everyone that the snowfall contest will be beginning in less than 2 weeks!! Anyone who hasn't signed up with their totals yet, please get them in by December 31st. The contest rules and cities are in the quote below. If anyone has any changes, please let me know and I'll update them. Thanks everyone and here's to a good 2nd half of winter!!!

Hey all. Was thinking about making things a little more interesting in here since winter is coming up, but could be delayed due to the El Nino pattern. Was wondering if anyone would like to do a snowfall contest running from (January - March) where we would have 4 main airports and a tie breaker, similar to the Mid-Atlantic forum. I will make and update an excel file once everyone gives me their totals. I will also try to give recaps after larger events and after every month. I will also post snow totals as they occur for each airport. Here would be the 4 locations:

UNV:

MDT:

ABE:

JST (Airport):

Tiebreaker: Lowest temperature recorded at UNV for the Contest period

All the snow totals can go out to the tenths place and low temperature will be a whole number. I will tally up the results at the end of the year and announce the winner. The final results will be the absolute value of the error totaled. Lowest combined error wins.

Whoever would want to try this out, just respond to this message. If more than 10 people want to do this, I'll open a contest thread. Thanks!! Can't wait to get this winter going. The LR pattern unfortunately doesn't yield too much promise at this time.

Hey all!! Hope everyone is ready for the winter that's going to be incoming over the course of the next few weeks and hopefully longer. Have got an Excel file up and ready to go. It's a working file with formula's to calculate everything through the contest. Will be posting weekly snowfall amounts for each site on Friday's. Good luck to all!!

Hey guys!! Sorry for the delayed response to the contest. I have been keeping track of everything and have everything up to date that I can get. The only thing standing in my way is the fact I cannot find any snowfall data for KJST. I looked everywhere and found numerous data sets for precipitation and historical METAR data, but no direct find for snowfall post Jan 1st. The only thing I have not done yet is to call the airport directly to see if anyone has taken any measurements this winter, so I can incorporate it into the excel file. If anyone has any connections at all to KJST or have a site that could lead to the data, please pm me or post it in the contest thread. That would be of great help. Until then, I do have the results to the contest so far and will post an image of the excel file with the contest data on it; excluding the daily snowfall data set.
