Chinook Posted November 28, 2015 Share Posted November 28, 2015 As a follow-up to my post on "Midwest Winters Cooling," I decided to look at the 5-year averages for DJF temps in the USA. These are all plotted using the same 1950-1995 climatology. You can see how the winters in the USA have trended down from the 50s to the 60's. Then the East trended down very much from the early 70's to the late 70's. Then there was broad trend to warmer for all regions, resulting in 1995-2000 period being very warm. Since then, there has been a trend back to cooler for the southern US from 2000-2005. Then the central part of the country trended down but the Northeast trended up in 2005-2010.
