It was a pleasant day yesterday before the rain moved in, one of the most phenomenal winter day(s) ever. There were periods of sunshine with a nice fresh breeze that wasn't too cold.

Sitting at 15ºC with a high of 16ºC coming in a hour or so. My forecast point is showing Christmas Eve morning approaching 90 km/h gusts with sustained at 60 til tomorrow at noon. Its probably going to get roary (hoping power stays on or doesn't flicker). It seems Xmas Eve is a power outage prone day. The overnight temp. will be record obliterating for me and a huge swath of stations. In extreme SW Ontario I'm seeing close to 17ºC morning temps!! If that verifies it will be the most extreme departures since The Great March Heatwave of 2012. Labeling it Torchmas doesn't do this justice :santa: .

Marry Christmas.

Blowing hard this morning!
MQT:VERY IMPRESSIVE LOW PRESSURE FOR LATE DECEMBER OVER UPPER MICHIGAN.
IN FACT...THE CSFR CLIMATOLOGY SUGGESTS THAT THIS LOW OF PRESSURE HAS
NOT BEEN SEEN ACROSS THE GREAT LAKES IN MID-LATE DECEMBER SINCE AT
LEAST 1979. THIS MAKES SENSE AS THIS MAGNITUDE OF LOW PRESSURE IS
NORMALLY SEEN IN LATE OCT-MID NOVEMBER

On a side note, .45" of rain fell melting all but about 1.5" of the snow but right after midnight rain changed back to snow and looks like a white Christmas will be had.

Wow at the wind gusts here early this morning around 2:30am when the cold front came through. The wind woke me up and it was roaring outside so loud, I couldn't believe the power stayed on. Then I checked the local airport (mount pleasant) and it had reported a 54mph gust a bit before the front came here. I would estimate it was gusting 60mph here. I saw a pine tree down across the road a mile from here while doing some late night last minute xmas shopping, and the road was covered in small branches everywhere (better than any tstorm all year lol). Now that the sun is up I will have to check around my yard and see if any trees came down, maybe drive around a bit and survey the area. It took the internet/tv and land phone lines out so I couldn't get gas with a credit card at the nearby gas station too, pretty exciting actually. :)

Officially not a white Christmas at MSP airport but a little over 1" on the ground imby. Snowed almost all day yesterday but temps were above freezing until last night.

Merry Christmas to everyone! Looks like most of the sub has a shot of some snow before the end of the month.

All rain down here yesterday ...ended up with 3/4 inch precip...my God this month has been wet.  I think the snow is just to the north because some cars have snow on them this morning.   Never did get much of a warm push over here...Still been a very mild month.  Looks late month we could see a good shot of some winter temps...i suppose that depends on snow cover.

I was just wondering how you fared. The Intellicast weenie radar was showing a heavy band of snow over your hood last night, but the rain/snow demarcation was very close. I was hoping to see some snow shots from La Crosse.

Yeah that trailing wave turned out to be pretty impressive out over western Iowa and southeast Nebraska.  Already 6" reported in the Omaha area, and still snowing very hard.  Could be some 8-10" reports there.  Also snowing pretty nicely as far east as Des Moines.

Hawkeye may get in on some of this, but the wave is weakening so wouldn't think more than some light amounts.

Pretty neat how a little disturbance like that one can produce of amounts of near 10".

Didn't something like this happen around Ottumwa about 4-5 years ago. Where over a foot of snow fell with a very tiny disturbance?

No doubt.  Pretty nice little Christmas present for snow lovers in those areas.

Since 1892, Detroit has a 47.6% probability of a "White Christmas". 59 Christmases have been white and 65 Christmases have been bare (I am already counting 2015). i should note that 26 of those 65 bare Christmases did have a T of depth, but not all T's are created equal (some cases could be a rogue, old patch of slush, others could be a fresh dusting).
