pazzo83
Let's not lose sight of the SST's which are rising. Now 55degs. @ 44065, and Coney Island is reporting 53degs. and this is given as +8. This time last year it was 45-47F at 44065 (entrance to NY Harbor). Wow.
pazzo83
Unreal. Coastal locations probably won't have the luxury of cooler SSTs to help them in marginal setups even into late January this winter. On the other hand, you'd think we could be in for quite a show of a storm if we can ever manage to get a true arctic air mass combined with a good coastal track. You gotta think at some point this winter, with that Nino-enhanced STJ and these SSTs, we are due for something explosive. Maybe not snow on the coast, but yea, it would be quite a show regardless. SnoSki14
0z gfs making another push toward 70F on the 29th. Xmas eve still on track for 70s but how high depends on cloud debris. If sunny weather were to prevail we'd be looking at upper 70s but low to mid 70s are more probably atm.

bluewave
NYC just needs a few breaks of sun on Thursday to challenge the December highest maximum temperature of 75 degrees set on 12/7/98. The highest late December maximum temperature record in NYC is 71 set on 12/22/13. The other record to watch is the highest monthly minimum for December in NYC. It was 61 set on 12/21/13. Going to be some insane departures next 3 days. Will also put a dent in the rainfall deficit with 1-2 inches likely for most.

That 61° minimum from 12/22/2013 is the only minimum reading of 60° or above during meteorological winter. It's amazing that this winter might produce the second such reading. CIK62
The GFSx for the next 8 days (including today) is at +20degs. Using actual for the first 21 days, the GFSx for the next 8, and Accuweather for the final 2 days of the month: (11.2x21) + (20.0x8) + (14.0x2) = 425 deg. of surplus or 425/31 =+13.7degs. http://www.nws.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/mos/getmex.pl?sta=KACY&sta=KEWR&sta=KNYC&sta=KJFK&sta=KLGA
uncle W
I thought having three consecutive days 60 or above around Christmas time was the worst...That happened in 1964...Newark was 69 on Christmas Day...This year blows away any bad starting winters of my lifetime and I'm as old as dirt... donsutherland1
Speaking of warmth, today is the 19th day on which the temperature reached 50° or above in New York City. We have 6, not including today. The least amount of days below freezing is 4. We have 0. Not positive on this one but i believe the least amount 32 and below days is 6, we have 0.
