This month was supposed to be ****ty. No surprise this looks like this.

I thought it would break the record from the start..I don't see any light at the end of the tunnel yet...All I have to go on is analogs and they show a mild pattern if the ao/nao is positive...this is like 2006-07 only worse...I hope February and March are like 2007...I doubt it gets as cold in February as 2007...it only needs to be cold enough...

Christmas nightmare,Florida climate in NYC..I doubt we will ever see a warm December like this again. It's like every possible thing to go wrong went wrong this month. It's historic, once in 100 year pattern..2001 was the frigid compared to this

How many times have we heard this in the past few years? It's been a wild ten years for this area.

If the December mean temperature is 47.7°, it would be such an event relative to the 1981-2010 baseline (2.327 sigma above the average December temperature).

December Mean Temperatures and Return Times (1981-2010 climate reference period):

100 years: 47.7°

150 years: 48.3°

200 years: 48.7°

250 years: 49.0°

300 years: 49.3°

350 years: 49.5°

400 years: 49.7°

450 years: 49.9°

500 years: 50.0°

1000 years: 50.9°

I believe this is the most extreme December El Nino warmth in the US relative to climo since December 1877.

The historic warmth during that event was focused over the Upper Midwest since the ridge was further

west and not as expansive as this year.

 DECEMBER TEMPERATURE EXTREMES MINNEAPOLIS/ST PAUL MINNESOTARECORDS BEGIN IN 1872 (TEMPERATURE)15 WARMEST 33.8...1877 30.5...1913 30.1...1959 30.1...1891 30.0...1931 29.9...1923 29.1...2006 29.0...1881 28.8...1889 28.5...1918 28.5...1894 28.0...1965 27.8...2011 27.7...1939 27.6...2001

Water temps around here are still in the mid 50s. Unreal.

And they had actually been slightly rising since the beginning of the month. Just wild stuff. My re-blooming petunias didn't like today. Guess they will have to wait for more favorable weather as we get into late December next week....
