Rittenhouse
We're going to shatter the monthly record. December 2001 had multiple lows in the 20s at the end of the month (including 21 degrees on Dec. 31). I'm not sure if Central Park will dip below 32 this December. The current record for least days on which the temperature fell to 32° or below in December is 6. That record was set in 1984 and tied in 2006. If the remainder of December finishes at normal (extremely unlikely), the monthly average temperature would be 42.6°, which would tie for 7th warmest on record. To break 2001's record monthly average temperature of 44.1°, the remainder of December would need a mean temperature of 38.3°. A warmer outcome appears to be very likely. And yet another flower in bloom (from this morning):

PB GFI
You have to love all that east vs central based Nino talk all these months when that may not make a difference in the end. Also 12z gfs continues with Xmas week inferno and it should rival or exceed the past week's warmth. NYC will likely see a +30 or better daily departure that week. Of course it matters. You're gauging the entire winter on December when the overwhelming guidance points to a much more favorable 500mb pattern once into Jan . Either you don't understand the differences in where the greatest heat/upward motion ends up along the equator or you taking one expected / warm month and turning it into your winter forecast. The same idiots who yelled east base and opined everyday about an explosion in 1.2 which never came are now the lead dopes on the entire winter torch idea. I think some of you like self flaggelation. I'd agree, if we're locked into the pattern through all of January with phantom day 10 pattern changes, time to pull the plug.

Funny thing is it won't be that big a shatter compared to what some cities have down recently. I think last February Salt Lake City broke their previous warmest February by 16 degrees, it was basically a wrap by the middle of the month they were gonna do it

I think last February Salt Lake City broke their previous warmest February by 16 degrees, it was basically a wrap by the middle of the month they were gonna do it It looks like the biggest monthly warmest record beat for NYC was January 1932 surpassing 1913 by 43.2 to 40.9. That January 1932 record still stands and was probably the greatest monthly departure for NYC. I think the January mean back then was around 31, but uncle probably has the stats.
