powderfreak
You'll have a much better chance there of beating 2011...but the gap is definitely going to close quickly at the end. It'll just depend if you have a big enough lead to hold on before the month runs out. A couple of those final days were like +20 up there and the Euro shows a pretty good cold shot...so if you get like a -10 day in there, that is going to shave off a full degree on the monthly mean vs 2011...two days in a row like that and you shave 2F. Yeah, well from a sensible weather standpoint, a torch in the first half of November like this year is better than a torch at the end of November like 2011...even if the months end up similar in the end. 40/70 Benchmark
October 2010 (34.1" of snow, but honorable mention to '05 and '06) November 2002 (big snows and cold) December 2007 (very close call with 2003 though, as that had 2 storms of 20"+) January 1958 (awful winter on the whole, but looks like an incredible January for big snowstorms) February 2011 (BTV's snowiest Feb on record) March 2001 (no doubt at all). April 2007 (6 feet of snowfall at the ski area) May 1997 (cold and snowy, 48" snow depth on May 31, 1997) Holy $hit..

ORH_wxman
December 95 is sort of nostalgic for me since that was the first real wintry December I experienced. Couple of real nice storms. Really underrated month...the bust on 12/20 stings a bit, but it still dropped 8.5" here. Even though 1-2 feet was forecast. There were other events that month though...good event on 12/9 and another on 12/14. Had snow pack most of the month and no thaws. And even after the 12/20 disappointment, the ULL stalled up NE of here and we had snow showers for several days around the back side giving a very wintry fell into Christmas. Non-living though is probably Dec 1970 or Dec 1945. There's a lot of really great months out there that people have no idea about since we always focus on what we experienced personally. OceanStWx
If you love torches, I think my list would be: Nov 2011 Dec 1923 Jan 1913 Feb 1984 Mar 2012 or 1945 I was going to be the turd in the punch bowl and suggest that month. The ends of the last two winters are certainly payback for that one.

Agree about Dec. 1995, was surprised it didn't come up earlier in the thread. Probably a tossup for me between that and 2010, though would likely lean 1995 due to # events, cold, and pack retension. Also, though they are likely not my #1 choices, a few others that deserve mention: Jan 2005 (I'd put it a close 2nd to 2011) March 2005 March 2007 March 1996 October 1988

But I had to give the nod to 2011 given there were no thaws that month after the New Years torch. 2005 had a warm first 4 days...then some nice snow events, but unfortunately a nasty cutter on Jan 13-14th that wiped most of that snow out before we had the epic final 2 weeks of the month. Jan 1987 is a contender too...really really good month for interior SNE.
