I'm shocked Will didn't select December 1992

Amazing storm, favorite of all time...but the month was actually pretty sh*tty after that storm...we didn't hold onto a White Christmas by all that much.

Dec 1970 was just a train of storms and very cold almost throughout.

That and 2007 were so similar, although 1970 was slightly more prolific, I just anointed 2007 out of deference to my own experience.

I'd lean toward December 1989.  I'm a cold weather guy and that month just rocked for me, particularly being in northern New England at the time.

January is another tough one because there is 1994 and 2004 but I'm going to lean toward January 1987 because it was a mix of cold and snow (over 30").

So my list would be:

October 2011 (Honorable Mention 2005)

November 1986

December 1989 (HM to 1992)

January 1987 (HM 2011)

February 2015

March 2015 (HM - 1888)

April 1997

May 1977

June 2013

July 2000

August 1991 (Hurricane Bob)

September 1938 (Do I really have to say?)

I may be missing a few details that change my thinking, but my best guess.

October 2009

November 1987

December 1970 (2008 close second I think)

Jan 2011 (2009 close second as was 1996, but cutters killed second half of month)

Feb 2015

March 1993/2013 (2015 beats it in snowpack hands down, but 1993 much more active. Debatable for sure)

April 1997

May 1977

October 2010 (34.1" of snow, but honorable mention to '05 and '06)

November 2002 (big snows and cold)

December 2007 (very close call with 2003 though, as that had 2 storms of 20"+)

January 1958 (awful winter on the whole, but looks like an incredible January for big snowstorms)

February 2011 (BTV's snowiest Feb on record)

March 2001 (no doubt at all).

April 2007 (6 feet of snowfall at the ski area)

May 1997 (cold and snowy, 48" snow depth on May 31, 1997)

You SNE'ers, I'm noticing variability in April... Ginxy with 1996, Coastal with 1997, and Jerry with 1982.  Be curious to hear about the differences in those months.

Well to be fair I'm vicarious for 1982 since I was in Los Angeles. However the pure cold blizzard on 4/6 is an amazing thought. Taking out that year I'd say 97 as a no brainier.

For ones that I lived through:

Oct 2011

Nov 2002

Dec 1992 (1995 honorable mention..pretty much pure winter all month with multiple snow events..even if 12/20 was a semi-bust)

Jan 2011

Feb 2015

Mar 1993 (2001 could be argued)

Apr 1997 (I will say Ginxy has a good point on 1996...but I still personally pick '97 since April is never more than 1 week wintry anyway)

Sep -- 1938

Oct -- 2011

Nov -- 1921

Dec -- 2007

Jan -- 1994

Feb -- 1969

Mar -- 2001

Apr -- 1933

May -- 1966

Jun -- 1816

Jul -- 1911

Aug -- 1975

I thought about 1816 but the June tornado relatively close to me had to choose that one but I should have put that down as an honorable mention.  The summer of 1992 was another great, cool summer but nothing like that year.

if this order panned out I would have had the Nov snow on the ground in April 6 feet deep

If I add up my snowiest months ever, I'd have an average Gaspe Peninsula winter...lol:

January 2011 56.2"

February 2015 46.7"

March 1993 34.6"

April 1997 28"

(none recorded May-Sep since 1985)

October 2011 12.6"

November 1986 16.6"

December 1996 26.1"

Grant total of 220.8"
