cyclone77
I saw the models hinting at this a bit, but I didn't expect it to be so pronounced. CID now reporting some light snow at 8 miles.
hawkeye_wx
CID now reporting some light snow at 8 miles. We'll certainly be getting into moderate to heavy snow this evening, but we are 0.20-0.25" precip behind where the models had us by now.
Chambana
This gives you an idea of the razor sharp cutoff. Wow. I could see what little event this was for us, turn into a cold rain. I'm going accumulations less than 1"

mimillman
On the 22z HRRR, south side is all snow, whereas the north side and even up by Waukegan gets tainted by rain. PMS model can't make up its mind.

PMS model can't make up its mind. No way the South Side stays all snow. The temperature still over 40 degrees here, while O'hare is already down to 38. Definitely going to have some mixing issues tonight, even if the precipitation falls predominantly as snow.

Hoosier
HRRR 2m temps for 12z Saturday. Notice the band of freezing/subfreezing temps south of the lake as flow isn't onshore there. Other models have been showing something like this too, though perhaps a touch warmer. Gives me some hope lol

Not too surprising. 99% of the time the cut-off ends up much sharper than guidance will show.
