Hoosier
The guidance did a horrible job resolving the strength of this band in northern IL. The 18z runs generally had only about .2 liquid down for RFD by 03z, with even less than that toward ORD. This is pretty much going to be a historic storm for that section of northern Illinois. Jebman
Anyone know how much snow is on the ground in Crystal Lake, IL? I have a friend up there right now Unbelievable in Winnebago! Wow that frontogen band must have been dumping 7-8 inches an hour there! Congrats, N IL!

Castaway
The little snow cover on the roads melted past half hour here in oak Brook. (15mins south of ORD) Crickets here compared to the pics I'm seeing here Non salted too. Still early.
Jebman
Probably 6-10" Thx homedis. Wow, only 10pm there now and still have at least 12- 17 hrs yet of snow to go. That yellow band over Lake and McHenry counties in N IL is getting wider and it hasn't moved very much. http://radar.weather.gov/Conus/full.php It is probably piling up at least 3 inches per hour

Geos
Snow ramping up here. Starting to see more fat boys falling. Temp fell to 30.9°. Heaviest band moving into Waukegan. Looks like hills of snow out in front of your camera Tuanis.

homedis
"The Chicago National Weather Service Forecast Office has updated the Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow (pink-shaded area on map above) to 7 to 13 -inches tonight and Saturday generally along and north of Interstate-80. Bands of heavy snow with embedded thunder will dump several inches per hour in some locations tonight into Saturday with many locations possibly recording a foot or more of snow before the snow ends from west to east Saturday afternoon." --Tom Skilling
tuanis
Looks like hills of snow out in front of your camera Tuanis. Those are bushes buried in nearly 7" of snow. I'll try to elevate the camera a bit more. Band looks to be moving into Geoslandia. Enjoy. Per radar, it really consolidated as it moved overhead. hawkeye_wx
The storm hasn't been going as well for Cedar Rapids. We got off to a late start due to dry air and then, even once the main show commenced, the flakes were mostly small and the rate just wasn't very good. As of 9:30 I still only had 2.5" and models had us getting our heaviest snow between 6 and 10pm. On the other hand, my brother is getting blasted in Lake County, IL. Outside of the enhanced areas the rates are pretty meager.

sc2man13
Just went for a walk. There are some p-type issues here in Jefferson Park. Pavement is very sloppy. I'm a few blocks from the Jeff Park blue line stop.
mimillman
Really?? The whole time? Where are you Just changed over. Coating on the grass, and the cars. Nothing on the roads or the sidewalks. It should change back when we get heavier bands over us, but in the subsidence it's rain here.
