RitualOfTheTrout
Got a coating here now, flake size just got a bit better. Since about 5:30 it was just a light granular type snow.
SteelCity08
Snow is absolute powder! lot higher snow ratio, means more snow !! people are using brooms to just sweep it off ! 15-1 snow ratio I'm curious about the ratios. Not as cut and dry as some think.
RitualOfTheTrout
The 500mb map of the OP 18z GFS, show vort maxs in our area later on. Hopefully some enhancement does verify. Mabey we can make hay while the sun is shining, so to speak. Lol Are you referring to this? NAM seems to have these more consolidated and a bit further south, but its the better qpf total so go figure.

I've always wondered this when they issue a warning and list the cities. I mean looking at radar Greensburg is getting hit pretty good, but the returns really look like they are struggling to make it much further north than that. KPITSnow
For Pittsburgh South, I am feeling pretty good. Radar is filling in very nicely to the south, and after a short lull around the city, looks like heavier returns should push back north. Morgantown is reporting heavy snow, brownsville is getting hit pretty well from mailman. Obviously I doubt we get the heavy heavy stuff they are getting down there, but I would guess it pushes at least moderate rates up here.

jwilson
Just measured an even 5" - meaning we've had snowfall rates of almost 2" per hour since I last measured. Really good snow growth, it is pretty light and powdery. If I had to guess on ratios I'd say they are better than 12:1.
RitualOfTheTrout
I think they only list the 'major' towns in those counties. Well I know they have listed New Kensington in other watches \ warnings but not in this one. I don't even have a quarter inch here yet so I think they only list the major cities in the county that the warning applies to but maybe I'm wrong. north pgh
Just got back from Youngstown. Completely dry all the way down the turnpike until light snow falling in cranberry. My drive in through Wexford down to home got worse. Probably about .75 here. Side roads are snow covered and main roads are salted and wet or slushy. Right now not pushing North of Allegh. Co. but surprisingly coming down harder here than I expected, Like we all said if we can get a 25-50 mile push north we can all add on a bit, Glad to see the high totals already in the South. RitualOfTheTrout
Radar looks awesome! Filling in with 20-25 DBZ returns. Moderate snow here in Bellevue. Looking good, I was skeptical those returns would make it this far north. I'm getting moderate snow now and closing in on half an inch. I can see the wind gusting on occasion too. I hope we can stay like this for a couple hours.
north pgh
Moderate snow here and 1 inch. Snowplow just went down the street. Hrrr had no greens making it into Allegheny County. Now all of Allegheny Co is covered. Not bad for an area expecting 1-3. Unless it stops snowing soon they will need to up totals.

I can see the wind gusting on occasion too. I hope we can stay like this for a couple hours. There is a ton of moisture streaming up from WV. The fact it didn't get sheared apart in the first place and pushed this far north would make me think that it should continue to snow at a moderate clip in our area.
