Fergal Posted November 5, 2015 Share Posted November 5, 2015 Yes, in Ireland we had a cold spell in December 2010 in which we had frequent lake-effect snow showers generated over the Irish Sea. As these showers arrived the first part was usually graupel, then followed by snow in the bulk of the shower. Anyone experience graupel? Graupel is common in the Pacific Northwest of the United States too. It is just a heavily rimed snowflake. Looks like small hail, but squishy.
