Question. How is part of the lower apps down towards Asheville going to be getting more snow as is being forecasted on many models compared to places like ashe and watauga? From what I'm hearing there is a higher risk of sleet mixing in further south but yet the totals are still higher than northern counties. I'm sorta confused looking at that.

more qpf due to the upslope as the winds are out of the southwest. Looks like the deformation band comes thru the southern mtns as well.

Contest.. Which mountain top location will receive the most snow?

Options- Mt. Mitchell, Grandfather Mtn, Mt. Pisgah, Roan Mtn. Beech Mtn.

I will say Mt. Mitchell from the storm, but Beech and Roan will rake up with NW flow

Mt. Pisgah is looking like it may have the most QPF to work with, down there on the Transylvania/Haywood line.

I'll go with it.

East side near the tunnel.

EDIT: I will be in the beer district this evening, maybe we could have a weenie meetup? Probably will eat at Wicked Weed....

I would be down, but have a basketball game at 8:30 tonight. I will be about a mile up marrimon ave. from downtown and I think I am going to try and ski into town Friday night or Saturday morning to take some pictures if you want to have a weenie meet up then haha.

Mt Mitchell also delivers the huge amounts with this type of flow, what totals do you think each mtn top will receive?

My thoughts-

Mitchell- 29 (24 from storm, 5 from NWF)

Grandfather- 22 (18 from storm- 4 from NWF

Beech- 24 (18 from storm, 6 from NWF)

Roan- 21 (15 from storm, 6 from NWF)

Pisgah- 26 ( 22 from storm, 4 from NWF)

Big Meadows, Shenandoah National Park with 48"! :)

I'm still trying to decide if I will jump in the car for a 8 hour storm chase to the bulls eye in Northern Virginia. Might be 20 years before the next storm of this magnitude comes by and I may be too old to chase it by then! :)
