CherokeeGA
ANOTHER dam failure? In this case, no, not directly. I'm unaware of any dams in that area other than maybe berms for farmers' ponds and stuff like that. It's the Black River and surrounding swamp. That county got something like 24" of rain plus they are getting water draining from upstate, so the river (and swamp) are still rising. The river is something like 2'+ above the highest recorded flood stage and still rising, last I heard this morning they hadn't crested yet. I had heard on social media that driving from Ktree to Lake City wasn't possible, but the list of road closures in that county is sparse because as the governor said, they apparently can't get in there to even see. Most of what's on the closure list is right in town where there were people with cell phones to send photos/video. I'd expect lots of the rural roads have water and nobody's documented it. The land there that isn't swampland is farmed and I expect the crop damage is total. ;/
No snow for you
#Gamecocks AD Ray Tanner: "We're not 100 percent sure at this time we'll have a game at Williams-Brice. Plan underway, but not definite." Gamecocks supposed to play LSU at Noon on Saturday at Williams-Brice. All the gates are closed at Lake Murray Dam. ] Why did they close the flood gates. Water is still rising on Murray? https://www.lakemurray.com/Lake_murray_water_level.aspx Oh and they can't have that football game in Columbia. No water and maybe no power. No snow for you
They would be wise to play the game in Charlotte. If Jerry will let them. He is very protective of his stadium. mackerel_sky
Just a question about this flooding. Do they keep seperate categories for flooding, I.e., flooding and or record rain from a tropical system, vs, synoptic flood / rain event, or is flooding , flooding? And this past event would not count as a tropical entity, it was just moisture off of the storm, correct?

I dont know I think a lot will. same thing happened here in 1999, ECU ended up playing at NCSU ( are biggest rival's stadium), thousands of fans made the trip from all over and even NCSUfans came to show support for Greenville and eastern NC suffering from the floods.....we still call it the Hurricane Bowl since the game was against the nationally ranked Miami Hurricanes lol.....we won http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/137565/

Suncat
The snake in the picture is not a cottonmouth, it might be a copperhead ( but its not likely) but the pattern and color are off for a cottonmouth, my guess is its a banded water snake, which is easily mistaken for both cottonmouths and copperheads. I see them by the thousands when I fish the local river/ponds in eastern NC, I also see lots of cottonmouths and that isn't one. My guess is a red-bellied snake. The head sort of looks like that of a pit viper, but that could be an illusion.

It's so odd having such a horrifying event and not being able to name it. Some will still call in Joaquin, but what are we supposed to call it other than SC's great flood of 2015.. we in SC need to come up with a name to refer to it by. If this would have hit an area in Cali or the NE, it'd have a name somehow I'd think... Anyways, all evacuations have been lifted in Richland county.
