0z GFS still flipping back and forth on how much precip to bring northward. 0z GGEM being the most consistent still giving the OV a decent soaker. 0z Euro can't tell precip wise but does drop a good chunk of cold air behind it. 850 0 degree line drops all the way to AL/GA with -5 down to TN/AL/GA.

Was wondering how I missed 1956 for Chicago.  Then I noticed that there's an M for a couple days of the month, so the monthly precip shows up as M and goes to the bottom of the list when sorting from least to greatest.  Given the weather pattern on the 24th/25th, hard to believe there wouldn't have been any rain on the 25th, but I edited my post include 1956 among the driest.

I found this interesting weather factoid in the trivia section of yesterday's paper (Oct 19th). Wondering if anyone could comment or link for some more info?

"October 19th, 1844:

As many as 200 people drowned when strong winds forced water from Lake Ontario and Lake Erie onto the streets of Toronto and Buffalo."

That's a lot of people! That would have to be some massive wave action.

I'm well versed on sieches but I suppose I'm looking for information on this specific event. Must have been some serious wind. And for 200 people to drown during a sieche is definitely what I would call an 'uncommon occurrence'.

Gonna be hard to find info.  Even the reanalysis maps don't go back that far.

I would guess either A) a slum area got flooded, B) a dock got flooded (lots of manual laborers back then) or C) a sweatshop factory got flooded.

Here too. We've been getting occasional thunderstorms within these bands of showers. I'm just hoping the heavy rain doesn't bring down a lot more of our leaves. Terrible fall for seeing the colors this year! Lots of gusty winds and now heavy rain during our peak period. :(

Today wasn't all that nice up this way - not much sun at all. Picked up 0.08" of rain so far with more on the way.

Even had some lightning earlier.

Lol, yep it was rain believe it or not.  Picked up 0.74".  Had gone over a month with only 0.03" until today.  Nice to hear thunder again.

That rain yesterday evening was quite nice to wash all the harvesting dust out of the air. It was getting quite thick around here.
