nrgjeff
Thought we could do a thread for the total lunar eclipse. What's your forecast? Will you reposition to watch it? Will you blow it off for football? Regrettably I have doubts we clear in time. I suppose high clouds won't ruin a lunar eclipse like they would a solar. Euro is mainly mid-high clouds and may even briefly clear out Tenn for the show. GA/AL/MS looks more challenging. GFS clears out better, even after afternoon showers, but it has been handling the easterly flow poorly all week. My feeling is the eclipse will be visible over parts of our region. However one may have to drive a bit from locally cloudy areas. Been a long time since I've seen a total lunar eclipse so I'm considering all options. Plus I want to show my daughter who already shows early interest in the sky. Lunar eclipses are nice with kids because you can look directly; they are naked eye spectacular even in town; and, they last a while. Cheers! jaxjagman
More drier air on the Euro than the GFS.But at the same time the Euro keeps wanting to build in the higher level clouds from the S,the GFS though don't look that bad right now
jaxjagman
High clouds still seems to what could be the culprit for us tomorrow evening, the Euro is evening much worse from the system in the GOM streaming high clouds northward. Can't post the euro but here are two other models
jaxjagman
The NAM is showing more mid levels like Jeff mentioned
nrgjeff
Still looks hit and miss. I think we have reached the stage to watch VIS loops. Believe most people could drive short distances to more favorable clear spots. High clouds should be patchy and low clouds will depend on local moisture and orographics. Still the uncooperative weather in Tenn never ceases to amaze me. In the Plains one can safely and reasonably assume fair skies. Here one can assume clouds obscure most single night or 1-3 night astronomical events. Though the simple from back yard even in city lights event is threatened tonight, I think it will be viewable for most with short drives. Update: Total cloud crap-out in Chattanooga, par for the course anything in the sky 2015.

Jed33
Wow! The clouds cleared out here at just the right time for the max eclipse. Sky broke about 10:55 and has just now began to fill back in. It was a very pretty site! Looked just like all the pics and videos I was seeing streamed online. I was about to give up hope though, I tell ya. Did anyone else see it?
