I remember that October 1997 started off very warm in southern Ontario but that, by the end of the month, we were getting well below average temperatures with snow flurries. It will be interesting to see if a similar pattern sets up this year. I recall that October 2002 - another El Nino year - started off with temperatures in the low to mid 80s, but then turned unusually cold by late October. Correct me if I'm wrong but, regardless of the strength of the El Nino - and whether the winter turns out cold or warm - a sudden drop in temperature in mid October is a normal occurrence. 1976, 1997 and 2002 come to mind.
