SnoSki14
We're probably gonna go from one extreme to the next once that Nino subtropical jet kicks in. However right now it's nothing but hot air and burnt out vegetation.
nzucker
We're probably gonna go from one extreme to the next once that Nino subtropical jet kicks in. However right now it's nothing but hot air and burnt out vegetation. Vegetation is getting totally crisped in Westchester. I imagine fall foliage will be muted with early leaf drop and a prolonged summer. We really need a couple of cool, rainy days for the flora and fauna of the region. I still don't see the Euro having any negative departures let alone normal departures. It's wall to wall above normal.

IsentropicLift
Speak for yourself It's September. Summer is rapidly coming to a close. It may stay hot for a few more days but eventually Autumn always wins. We go through this every year. It's the same as people hoping for snow in April. Our seasons have been bizarre lately, definitely since 2009 with the cold summer and anomalous warmth in 2011-2012. We seem to either be really hot or really cold relative to average. Except for brief intervals in fall or spring helped along by ocean moderation.

The NAO continues in negative territory and that will be becoming more and more important as we turn the page into Fall. With the super Nino we should see a progression towards a very active, stormy, wet next couple of months. Winter is still up in the air but a strong Nino typically means warmer than average and wet. Since 1871, Central Park has seen 9 readings of 70° or above in December: 1946: 1 1982: 1 1984: 1 1998: 2 2001: 2 2006: 1 2013: 1 However, there seems to be little, if any, connection to September's data. They also occurred with varying ENSO considitions. We'll have to see how the pattern evolves when we get to December. Having said that, such readings have become more frequent in NYC since 1980 (8/9 such readings occurred since then).
