jm1220
Two more 100 degree days here in Austin-tomorrow might make 25 total for the season. Our average is about half that. I really hope tomorrow's the end of the brutal heat at least-a cold front is expected to come through on Tuesday night-Wednesday and drop temps to the lower 90s. Fronts become more common in the deep South from here on. The tropics might also produce something for TX in a few days on the end of this frontal boundary. Whenever I think it's hot here, I could always see this and know it could be much worse. Should be very active down there this fall and winter. We could very well see rare mid September 90s.I also think September will end up with the highest monthly anomalies relative to normal compared to July-August. Morris
Hypothetical question? Has September EVER had an average temperature that was higher than August? With this year's torch of an August, it's about impossible in any case.

With this year's torch of an August, it's about impossible in any case. Glanced through monthly averages and noticed that September 1921 was slightly warmer than August at KNYC, while 1894 was exactly the same, though I might have missed some other instances. Yeah really can only happen with a significant negative departure in August, like the year you mentioned.
IsentropicLift
The 12z GFS has a good soaker for Thursday but the real show would be Sunday with a highly amplified, negatively tilted trough with the LLJ maximized over the area and a closed 500mb low over West Virginia.
