mattinpa
1914 was an el nino year with their hottest temperature of 95 coming on 9/22...1965 had upper 80's around the same time...many other none el nino years had heat around the first days of Fall...If this pattern continues it should come close to happening...1957 cooled off the last week of September with rear record cold...I don't see that happening at all this September... All El Ninos aren't the same though. Too far out to know if the warmth lasts that long anyway, plus some extended range GFS runs bring back the trough. SnoSki14
I hit 92F but departures are getting more impressive now. And wow SSTs are over 3C above normal off our coast, I've never seen that in September. Convective activity would do well all the way to eastern LI. bluewave
Nice to see the Euro and GFS going for a closed low heavy convection potential. Will make the greenery around here very happy should they verify.

SnoSki14
The only problem with convective events are that they're hit and miss and heavy downpours will run off instead of sinking into the ground. But we'll definitely take it; it'll help for sure.

bluewave
Would be nice...getting very crispy out there...91 degrees here today. The EPS bring in thunderstorm chances later this week and beyond with a trough in the Great Lakes and moist flow here. Hoping Long Island can get into some training potential with convection passing over the impressive mid 70's SST's for early September.

Hoping Long Island can get into some training potential with convection passing over the impressive mid 70's SST's for early September. my biggest worry is having the ridge too strong which pushes the system too far west

Juliancolton
Newark actually hit 95 today. 1 above the previously reported record event. So did KPOU, amazingly enough. 76/66 now for an uncomfortably warm evening (though I'll grant that since we're solidly into record/extreme anomaly territory in my area, the heat now has something of a purpose). winterwx21
Boy do I hope the Thursday rain pans out. Walking in the backyard today, all I heard was crunch crunch from the brown grass and brown leaves. I've seen it get bad in the summer, but never this bad. Hopefully we'll have some nice slow moving t-storms on Thursday.
JerseyWx
What a scorcher tomorrow. My forecast high is 94°. I think some records will go down tomorrow for sure. Hopefully the rain Thursday gives everyone a nice even drenching.
