I saw this map that showed the most common high temperature by 10 degree group (for example, 30s, 40s, 50s, etc). In the UP, the most frequent group was 30s, for Detroit and extreme SE Michigan it was the 80s. The UP basically had the coldest "most freqent" high temp grouping in the continental U.S.

Man, that's awful.

70s here and fairly windy.

A little bit raw outside but should be back up to near 70 by Thursday

To quote alek:

No suicide watch for me.  Was the perfect day to have a slow burning fire, read some Edgar Allen Poe, make a soup, and take a welcome rest from cutting, splitting, and stacking firewood that's kept me so busy as of late.

Thx for the link!

That would be it. Thanks for posting that link.

The funny thing is, the vast majority of the population enjoys temperatures in the 70s when outdoors. By the maps posted there, a person living in Buffalo enjoys the same number of days with temperatures in the 70s as a person living in Charlotte.

46.9 degrees, moderate rain and windy....!

august wut?

Sounds like October!

Feels and looks like late September today.

Look at that sky - not a summer type sky.

High of 70° here today. Supposed to be 50° tonight.

HM8: Thanks for posting the link to those cool maps! Enjoyed looking through those. ;)

Point had upper 40s tonight but the solid overcast beneath the cyclonic strato deck is gonna give us the ol' dutch oven.

Same here. Currently sitting at 57° at 6 AM.  Not expecting much diurnal rise as my point is 69°. It would be the first sub-70 high since 7/9 here.

Was travelling for the summer and haven't posted at all, but getting back into it. Good to be tracking weather again, even if this is a pretty boring time. Sitting at a mere 62F today, but it's nice if you sit in the sun.

Witnessed a lot of wildfires out west this summer, even a day where the sun was a deep orange all day due to such a thick haze. Most current fires are burning in Washington state, and southerly winds have blown smoke north into the BC interior, prompting air quality advisories.

You can see some of the smoke beginning to blow east on the GOES visible continental view.

It is very very autumn like this afternoon. We are currently sitting at 65 degrees with overcast skies in my backyard. A few things to note as we approach September..

1) Wasps are just about done scavenging for protein and meat, and the overall nest hierarchy has begun to deteriorate - they are now out and about looking for your sugary sodas to keep themselves going.

2) Night time bug season (including mosquitoes, biting flies, other #$^holes) should be over by the second week of September with 40s possible Thursday night and following Labor Day weekend. One or two freezes come early October and all the bugs will be dead.

3) The leaves have begun to change! Several ill deciduous trees along my street have turned a dullish red color and leaves have begun falling like crazy. Overall color change in healthy tree foliage is at about 15%. This is about ten days earlier than normal.

4) Several bands of lake effect showers have established southeast of Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, and Georgian Bay this afternoon. This is aided by nice and cool northwesterly winds and relatively warm water temperature. This is the first incidence of lake effect I've seen in months, and the first of the season.

5) Autumn is less than a week! Warmer weather is forecast this weekend, but after that, who knows. I think it is safe to say we probably won't see any more days above 90 degrees this year.

6) Deer hunting season is starting pretty soon....

With respect to #5, long range is looking pretty warm, whether or not we hit 90 though is unknown but the pattern would be sufficient for the potential to get close.

I have a ground hive that is still very active.  I didn't want to kill them at first but it's ended up way to big and they're aggressive. I've been stung 3 times in 2 weeks.  Can't even get near them to kill it at this point and it's next to the house.  I'll have to wait them out

main bug season is done here... blk flies and gnats, but my swampy woods still have lots of skeeters and such, and the few upper 30's through Summer I had, had no affect on the bugs. All the song birds are gone and the robins... and they have been for a few weeks.  there is a migrating bird from the north passing through at the moment however, which is nice to see and hear

3) The leaves have begun to change! Several ill deciduous trees along my street have turned a dullish red color and leaves have begun falling like crazy. Overall color change in healthy tree foliage is at about 15%. This is about ten days earlier than normal.

leaves def changing more and more each day... I'd say at least 15% as well but accelerating fast.

first decent lake event here too.... mainly yesterday however.  today just constant drizzle off the lake

looking forward to warmer weather for sure. first tho, my point is 39 tomorrow night with low and mid 30's  and a frost mention just a few miles more inland.  on real good radiational  cooling nights, MQT always seems to bust at my specific location so I'm calling for 37 tomorrow night (we'll see).

6) Deer hunting season is starting pretty soon....

meh

Yikes! Get some Raid and go out late at night when it is cold out. They should be mostly inactive past dusk.

Clouds ended up clearing off before sunrise, and that allowed us to dip to 51.  Coldest of the new cool season.  DVN dipped to 49.

Not too happy to see all that smoke in the upper atmosphere heading this way again.  That got old pretty fast back in July.  Hope it doesn't stick around for weeks like last time.  The deep blue skies the last few days has been nice.

Here I have hardly seen any bee or wasp activity lately. Very few of them around. Still a few mosquitoes out, but not too many in this cool breezy weather.

Clouds have lightened up at least. Still really cool outside.

Even in your backyard I'm not sure how you can be at 15%... You're south of me and we are at maybe 1-2% leaf change. A tad excited for fall perhaps? ;)

Definitely some yellows and reds popping up imby. It is around 15% leaf change in my neighborhood. I'm definitely excited though. You got that right haha. ;)

Was kinda shocked by the skilling nugget drop earlier today...this summer is running 1 degree below normal and .3 degrees below last year. With the extended string of 80+ and the numerous 90's this year I thought for sure we would have been ahead of last year in the temp department.
