today had potential for some decent outlfow driven south movers to ride down the western edge of the lake but it's looking less and less likely

Little later, but still good call.

High of 88° at UGN today.

Yep turned out it was a case of delayed but not denied, much to the chagrin of this forecaster ;) Overall though it was a tough one because a key was the OFB did not race too far ahead of the convection. Also HRRR was not completely out to lunch but it was way too early and widespread this afternoon so it makes it harder to have confidence in the forecast.

Nice to see some IL peeps get in on some action tonight.  Out here near the MS River benign weather continues.  May get some storms Mon night though.

Noticed the walnut tree in the side yard is already getting pretty yellow.  It usually is one of the first trees to turn in the fall, but this seems a bit early.

I had a young maple turning colors about a month ago. Talked to an arborist and determined that the tree was stressed due to a lack of water. Started watering it, and it perked right back up.

We had some insane t-storms here overnight in regards to training/thunder&lightning/rainfall. South Pendleton (6-8 miles north of Buffalo Airport) reported 7.7 inches of rain overnight, could not have fallen in more than just a few hours. Lots of flooding.

From retired NWS met Steve McLaughlin:

“Impressive storm! From single cell over s niag county at 11 pm to most intense siege of violent storms in several years over buffalo metro by 2 am…whew! Terrific lightning! It’s those subtle boundaries in these humid air masses and warm August lake fueling overnight storms. It’s amazing how mesoscale we are…the lake protects us during daylight hours in summer but watch out in late summer overnights! 2.35″ here in main/n forest area of wmsvl in about 90 minutes 130-300 am. This is the most in a single day in my 4 yrs here. We were all fortunate in that we had been quite dry for several weeks so runoff was fast and few problems left. Now just sunny and steamy”
