JerseyWx
The low got down to 55° last night. Sleeping with the windows open I can now feel it in my nose, and dry throat. Amazing how cold that feels after such hot temperatures and high humidity days.
SnoSki14
August departures will be higher than the July departures and if September is as warm as models say it is then they'll be on par with the August positives if not higher due to rapidly declining averages. Isotherm
Thru 8/27 BOS : +2.1 BDL: +1.9 ALB: +3.0 NYC: +3.6 EWR: +2.7 LGA: +2.6 JFK: +3.6 TTN: +1.5 PHL: +2.2 Incredible longitudinal and urban/suburban gradient in temperature departures this month. Part of the difference is due to cool air anomalies weakening upon reaching the longitude of NJ, and the other reason is that the cities cannot effectively radiate in low dew point airmassess. The past few days have brought my August departure down to +0.6, in line with Hightstown COOP at +0.6 as well. My JJA departure is +0.3, very close to normal. The final will probably be close to this, as the next couple days/nights won't bring significant positives. For reference, summer 2014 was -1.1 here - quite cool - and summer 2013 was +0.9. So this will make three consecutive summers with moderate heat, and under +1 JJA departures. That should change next summer, based upon very early indications. SnoSki14
Even though September looks very warm, it doesn't appear to be overly humid. I wouldn't mind temps in the 80s all month if the humidity is decent.
CIK62
Based on the projected 850mb temps. only, today would have been our best chance to fail to reach 80 of the next 15 days. Maybe 5 or 6 90's possible too. Anyone know the Sept. record for 90 deg. days? Probably set in 1961 perhaps?

jm1220
High today was 87. How does it get this warm with relatively cold 850's? If the predominant wind is W or WNW, that downslopes from the hills in N NJ. That contributes to some of the worst heat waves around the urban Northeast.
