The Iceman Posted July 10, 2015 Share Posted July 10, 2015 You are correct. Just looked it up. Could of swore years ago frequent lightning was a criteria for severe warned storm. Hmmm It's usually mentioned in severe thunderstorm warnings as "in addition to winds >60 mph, frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm..seek shelter, ect.." but I don't believe that frequent lightning alone was ever a part of severe criteria. it's just that frequent lightning is usually a hazard with severe thunderstorms.
