Lookout
got around 0.30 yesterday finally. hell of a lot of smoke from the canadian wildfires out there today. It's been very apparent on visible satellite imagery the last few days over the plains as it headed this direction. hard to tell how much is clouds and how much is smoke but it's enough together to significantly dim sunlight and make it appear mostly cloudy right now. UNCCmetgrad
Severe thunderstorm watch yesterday and I we couldn't even muster a decent cumulus cloud here. Those of you in central and eastern North Carolina should count your blessings. At least you're getting storms. 1.66in of rain here in the last 10 weeks. This isn't as bad as 2007 yet but if the current pattern continues which ensebles hint at, it could get really ugly here in the around the southwestern piedmont, southern foothills and northern Upstate. mackerel_sky
I'll sacrifice dead plants and grass, as long as the roaring niño that is growing, keeps us moist from Dec - March, with lots of run ins , with the cold!

sparklecity
Does anyone think the storms in Tennessee heading our way makes it over the mountains? Prob nothing more than scattered stuff this afternoon. Parameters not as good as yesterday (like that helped anyways). Tonight there is a mention of a MCS, but it is not expected to survive it's trip across the apps. jshetley
That is totally wrong. It's missing all the rain over north Al right now. Better to go with the gfs which says we MAY get .25 total over the next 7 days. I still say it'll take a hurricane to get this area a good widespread rain, at least until Oct or Nov. A smokey haze for sure. Along that line, even at my advanced age, I learn something new almost every day. Brad Panovich @wxbrad 5h5 hours ago Intersting impact of smoke is that thunderstorms that ingest smoke poduce triple the climatological norm of postive lightning strikes. Oh thats the same model you claimed the other day to confirm you were better than the NWS. Give it a break man. Rain that just moved through WNC is likely heading your way but Jonesville is a black hole so we know you wont get any.
mackerel_sky
Smoke doing its duty here! All storms are staying in GA, some dud, dying rain headed this way! I think the smoke limited heating, the big wet continues! Congrats ATL

Amazing that this much smoke can travel from as far as Alaska to off the coast of Georgia and Northeast Florida. The sky definitely has the look you see in areas having big wildfires. sparklecity
This thing is gonna slide right under the upstate it looks like. Just checked the point and click and we've been dropped to 40%. At least they didn't wait. I've been under 80% twice this past week and have had next to nothing. The beat goes on and the NAM is a joke.

Yeah not expecting any substantial rain here even though we have 30-50% pops through Tuesday. When mby gets like this it's like pulling teeth to get any decent rainfall, while others near me keep getting storms over and over. Things won't improve until the flow changes because the gulf is closed for business as is. NAM had another epic run this evening lol.
