Its amazing he found it with such primitive technology.

it really is.. took many hours of staring at slides back and forth.

So much about pluto already has shattered current theories..the most impressive of which is the fact that small icy bodies like pluto can still be  geologically active somehow despite not orbiting a massive planet and being effected by significant tidal heating. That really turns old ideas and theories on their head.

And that is just the tip of the iceberg..the amount of new knowledge that has already come out of this mission is stunning. Already a number of things scientists thought they knew has already been proven wrong or has been changed. I can only imagine what will be learned over the next 16 months to years. When you consider the technical excellence of this mission in terms of putting that craft together in a limited amount of time and budget,  how well it's operated and performed, the unmatched precision in flight/travel, and overall scientific knowledge that will be gained from it...This mission will go down as one of the most successful and significant ones in history.

here is another neat look at pluto through the years...  including the high resolution close up views of it's 11,000 foot ice mountains. When you think about how even small icy worlds like this are the furthest thing from dull, it really makes you wonder what's out there. Makes me wish i was born thousands of years in the future just to see what we have discovered. (assuming we don't blow ourselves up of course).

One things for sure. There wont be any non military aircraft over this beach today. Wow thats alot of hardware .

Maybe there's a typhoon class Russian sub parked off the coast?  They will listen to our rock and roll, while they conduct missile drills.  Then, they will sail to Havana, where the weather is warm, and so is the comradeship!
