FLASH FLOOD WARNING
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY
1245 PM EDT WED JUL 15 2015

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN UPTON NY HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
QUEENS COUNTY IN SOUTHEASTERN NEW YORK...
KINGS COUNTY IN SOUTHEASTERN NEW YORK...

* UNTIL 245 PM EDT

* AT 1244 PM EDT...DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A THUNDERSTORM PRODUCING
HEAVY RAIN ACROSS THE WARNED AREA. FLASH FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO
BEGIN SHORTLY. RADAR ESTIMATES OF UP TO 1 TO 1.5 INCHES HAVE RAIN
FALLEN ALREADY WITHIN THE LAST HOUR.

* SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE...
ROCKAWAY BEACH...SHEEPSHEAD BAY AND CANARSIE.

It ripped at jones beach big time. An the sky to the west was pitch black. Nada in wantagh not a single drop

 

I was to the north and saw the really dark skies down around Long Beach. You can really feel those dews in the low 70's today.

I'm used to missing to the north and west. But south, that's a new one. And yeah just getting in to the city and its pea soup. I don't see how we do not see more heavy showers develope

My best under 2 hour rainfall  in Long Beach of 5.15" on 6-22-95 missed areas just north.

It was a back building cluster of torrential thunderstorms that extended west to east right along

the South Shore beaches. It knocked out the Long Beach water supply when a water main 

pipe got undermined and broke. That was the longest line ever for bottled water in Waldbaums.

Looks like CI jack-potted this one as totals estimated by radar and reported from a Sheepshead Bay station reached 2.7".   CPK looks to be under .50".    Even going E-W across length of CI produces  1.5"  differences.
