Hoosier
Aerials showing a few two story homes swept away in Coal City. Looks like the vehicles remained in place, which would likely prevent anything higher than EF3, but this damage is definitely more intense than the 2013 event. Besides the obvious extensive damage, looks like something got shifted off its foundation in that top pic but the building is still mostly intact (top left?). Debris floating in flooded lots on that bottom photo. That strip of the state has been raked with rain, and now this.

Buckeye05
Besides the obvious extensive damage, looks like something got shifted off its foundation in that top pic but the building is still mostly intact (top left?). Just a weird angle; those two homes were along a cul-de-sac, so they weren't aligned side-to-side to begin with. Structure in question looks to have lost its garage and top floor though. Geos
From what I've seen so far it looks like Coal City was hit the worst last night. Feel bad that they've gone through 2 tornadoes in less than 2 years. Mobile homes flipped over at most it looks like. michsnowfreak
Had 1.36” of rain imby. Thrashing rain, wind, & loud thunder, but I was pretty sleepy so didn’t get up to watch. My sister got some lightning shots. A cousins family was camping at a campground in Birch Run when the tornado hit. Their account is that everyone was hiding in the bathroom in shower stalls, the door was ripped off the hinges, everyone was screaming.
jojo762
Sounds like we've had multiple strong tornadoes across Illinois and Michigan... And both those EF2 from the above update will probably be upgraded I'd imagine. The Coal city tornado was a monster... 3/4 of a mile wide!
andyhb
EF2 confirmed in Saginaw and Tuscola Counties in MI. My guess is the one in Sanilac County was significant as well and perhaps the one in Washtenaw County too.

Buckeye05
DMX has confirmed an EF3 near Marysville, IA. Strongest tornado of this event so far (though I think Coal City, IL will be upgraded once those slabbed homes get surveyed), but I've heard no specific information as to what kind of damage occurred in Iowa, or what lead to the EF3 rating. jojo762
Quick question but how can/do they have "estimates" that're that exact? Such as it took 142mph winds to cause "blah" damage, and it took 103mph to cause "blah" damage?
andyhb
Quick question but how can/do they have "estimates" that're that exact? Such as it took 142mph winds to cause "blah" damage, and it took 103mph to cause "blah" damage? I'm guessing one of the damage indicators they found had this wind speed expected. Since it appears to have been a 1/2 family residence, the upper bound for DOD 6 is 142 mph and the lower bound for DOD 9 is the same.
