Latest mesoanalysis showing some recovery in northern IL, though obviously really playing from behind...

Certainly some respectable instability readings across the area, even a little 6-spot on the fixed-layer STP just west of the Chicago metro area, but it's not much to get excited about with capping & cloud cover.

You win some, you lose some (though we've certainly been losing more than winning in recent years...)

Interesting what DVN did...

..THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING...

AT 509 PM CDT...THUNDERSTORMS WERE DEVELOPING ALONG THE KEOKUK AND
MAHASKA COUNTY LINE. ADDITIONAL STORMS WERE FURTHER WEST IN MARION
COUNTY. THE STORMS WERE MOVING TO THE EAST SOUTHEAST AT 25 MPH.

THESE STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO INTENSIFY...SO BE CERTAIN TO MONITOR
LOCAL RADIO AND TV STATIONS...AS WELL AS LOCAL CABLE TV
OUTLETS...FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS FROM THE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.

A TORNADO HAS BEEN REPORTED 12 MILES SOUTH OF KNOXVILLE.

A TORNADO WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1100 PM CDT FOR SOUTHEASTERN
IOWA.

Ooooh. Mesoanalysis just updated for me... 3000 j/kg SBCAPE for most of N IL

Pretty substantial improvement with respect to erasing the cap and building a bit more instability compared to a couple hours ago, but I'm not holding my breath for anything noteworthy.

Neither am I, but now I know we do have a chance if things were to go well.

Tops increasing on the storm S of Iowa City, would be my bet for the next one to go.

The winds are more backed in that area too along with the impressive parameters that you outlined earlier. I'm about 15 miles south of that storm. Will report back with what I see.

Has that eagle wing look to it...
