I like visiting the city (Manhattan) and I'd never miss the other 4 boroughs if they sank into the ocean. I am actually going to have breakfast on the upper East side tomorrow morning with my sister who's boyfriend has an apartment on E 73 between 2nd and 3rd.

The cost of city living is horrendous and the traffic, dirt and noise are out of control. It's not just NY, I generally dislike all urban areas. I do love the NY history and the resteraunts, especially in the village but I'm very happy when I arrive back home at my house with my green lawn, peace and quiet and stars in the sky.

...couldn't pay me enough to move back to the city.

Amen brother!  The only way I could live there is if I didn't have to work and had unlimited funds to enjoy what the place has to offer.  Lotto/Powerball, that kind of thing.

What a spectacular morning in the woods today.  Cool and dry, just as crisp as crisp could be.  Speaking of dry, holy fire danger Batman!  Close to 1/3 of the leaves are down already and it's dusty everywhere even the creek beds.

Yea, no kidding. There was a bit of a break in mid August with some rain but still below normal. It's very dry here, the grass is fried and leaves are dropping, more than normal for this point.

This looks pretty decent for heavy rain on Thursday, with PWATs well over 2", 500 to 1000 j/kg of CAPE, and decent upper-level support from falling heights and a divergent jet streak region. The HPC likes a decent soaking of 1.5" to 2" in most areas, and as it stands I don't think 3" is too far out-of-reach for spots under the deepest convection. Nice to finally have something to track, even if seasonal trends argue for an underperformer...

As a side note, Albany just confirmed that KPOU broke its daily record high by five degrees. Very impressive.

Just like I was out of the country for the 5/31-6/2 deluge, I'll be out of the country on Thursday for a week.

That means that it won't underperform.

We torch. Hottest day of the year and tied for the 4th warmest September day on record (I really wish KPOU had an uninterrupted period of record to better substantiate that kind of statistic, but alas.)

A RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 97 DEGREES WAS SET AT POUGHKEEPSIE NY
TODAY...SEPTEMBER 8...AT 315 PM EDT. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF
92 DEGREES SET BACK IN 2007.

My gut tells me, that I end up with around 3/4 of an inch of rain when all is done.

I don't expect to be anywhere near 2 inches of rain.

We should do pretty well... I'd be surprised if anybody ends up with less than about 1.50", honestly. You can see the extensive blossoming of precip north of that WNW-ESE oriented shortwave over Virginia (look for broad cyclonic turning there):

As expected, the synoptics continue to look favorable for cyclogenesis:

IMPULSE OVER KY/TN WAS BEGINNING TO CAUSE A SLIGHT INFLECTION IN THE DOWNSTREAM WCB SUGGESTING AN INCREASE IN LOW LEVEL FRONTOGENESIS ALONG WITH THE BEGINNING OF MORE NOTICEABLE SURFACE WAVE DEVELOPMENT WHICH MOST RECENT SURFACE ANALYSIS SUGGESTS MAY BE ONGOING OVER W VA. JET STREAK N OF THE ST LAWRENCE ALSO APPEARED TO BE STRENGTHENING AS DOWNSTREAM BLOCK OVER THE NW ATLANTIC HAS BEEN FORCING HEIGHT FALLS NE INTO PORTIONS OF SE CANADA.

Radar looks very good to my eye. You can pick out a little mesolow over York County, PA, heading generally in our direction.
