Back from Texas. It was a long 2 day drive. Ran into some torrential downpours in Louisiana that bought traffic to a halt and then Sunday it was the incredible heat that we dealt with temps topping 100 in SC. At my house the temp hit 98 with a dewpoint of 79. Currently we are at 99, dew point 74. Feels miserable out there.

Been stuck at 97 for awhile figured the GFS was overdone with 100-102, maybe closer to 100 tomorrow but it should be a bit dryer so it will most likely not feel any hotter than today....

97 at the airport but 103 at my house, dew point at 74.

96º here as well.

Usually, the first flirtation with 100 in the forecast busts slightly on the high side.  It takes a while for forecasters to get their sea legs with forecasting extreme heat.  By about the second or third time, it'll end up being about right.

... Record high temperature set at Raleigh-Durham international
Airport..
.

The high temperature at the Raleigh-Durham international Airport so
far today... June 15th... was 99 degrees at 243 PM. This breaks the
previous record high temperature of 97 set in 1981.

This high temperature is preliminary and may still increase a degree
or two before the end of the day.

What's the best way to see the between hour readings at the airport?  Looks like it's 97 now.  Wonder why it would have spiked to 99 briefly and backed off?

There is no public software I'm aware of which lets you dial into ASOS. The FAA has this system locked down and only the NWS and other partners have access. The maximum temperature for each hour is calculated from a running 5-min average, which means it can, and often does, occur outside of the reporting time.

Thanks very much.  I didn't think there was a way to see that data, but it's good to know for sure.

The only way I know to get up to the minute observations from ASOS is to call. Each ASOS station has its own number you can call for an automated vioce observation. Here is the one for RDU (919) 840-0816.  The NCDC does have 5minute observations as well as raw 1 minute data from ASOS however these are only released at the end of each month.

Even in constant sun, minute to minute temperatures can vary quite a bit up and down especially from mid to late afternoon.

Good deal.  I was kind of surprised to see a 99 reading near 2:30 and then only hourly readings of 96 or 97 after that (I don't think I saw anything higher than that, although I was only looking at the main NWS Raleigh page that refreshes the readings every hour).  But as you said, I guess it can vary quite a bit.
