NRVwxfan.
Well, it's not a mesoscale model so you can't expect it to pinpoint where thunderstorms are going to occur. Even the mesoscale models don't do it that well. So, im not gonna trust a model, especially these GSF clown maps.
calculus1
how do people live there ? Or I guess the better question is WHY would they live there ? Hmmm...probably because they were born there, live under a repressive regime, and have no chance of escaping the country through emigration elsewhere...unless they're wealthy. I bet it only takes like 5 min of being outside to have a heat stroke. I honestly don't even know how humans survive a 160 degree heat index. I bet that's equivalent to about 100 below zero in terms of comfort level . I wonder if those people just stay inside all summer. If you walk outside you're risking your life. Solak
06z GFS Aug1 -- the next 16 days show 90's and 100's every day for central NC. No cool down in sight. If it were to verify (not likely), today's 94 will be the 'coldest' day of the period. (based on KJNX location via Meteostar)

The CFS actually did pretty well for July... http://www.americanwx.com/bb/index.php/topic/46423-summer-2015-pattern-discussion/?p=3610801 Late June runs of CFS for July suggest slightly above normal temps, with the most precip focused from the southwest to southern plains to TN Valley
WinstonSalemArlington
RDU ended up precisely at normal for temperature, 0.28" above normal in precipitation for July. Perhaps, the previous two cool summers have skewed perceptions, but July was statistically unremarkable.
Snowless in Carrollton
Looking at that data for Charlotte, what amazes me is that 1943 was the 8th warmest from June 1-July 31 despite having over 14" of rain ! How can it possibly be that wet and yet be one of the hottest.
Stormsfury
I heard the all time record was set in Saudi Arabia on the Persian gulf coast. 108F with a HI of 176. Yep. The 108F with a DP of 95 occurred in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia with a yield heat index of 173.8 (174F). Ironically, the highest all time temp there occurred in May with 121. Keep in mind 170F is hot enough to sterilize meat. Also, of note, despite the intense humidity, that location only averages a mere 4.21" of annually and the average of no rainfall during the summer months. In direct sunlight, you could add on about 14 degrees to that. Bleh.

calculus1
Looks like Gaston, Lincoln , Cleveland counties, in a severe drought now! Yep, it sucks to be in the lee of the Apps...in summer and in winter (unless there is CAD involved). I only got 1.6 inches of rainfall for all of July. That's the lowest total in the four Julys that I've lived at this current house.

sparklecity
This can't be real can it? Watch it go back to being <0.25" by 6z. sparklecity
It's been doing that all summer and it hasn't happened yet. Not for the upstate. It has had the lee side minimum all summer. At any rate, 12z has dropped back down to between 0.75" and 1.00". Hoping we can eek out some rain by the end of this week.
