winterwarlock
Hope it was worth a below average and rainy rest of the warm season Lol...a cool rainy week and we are declaring it to be the summer pattern just because the calender said June 1..oh please Ill make up a bet this summer finishes above normal in nj
LongBeachSurfFreak
I got in on that quick fall off in rainfall from JFK east, but it was better than nothing. You could see the outflow and redevelopment stalling just to the west of Nassau with the training cells on Sunday. This was just a bit more of an extreme version of what can be a typical rainfall pattern here. But it least for the LI crew this wasn't snow. WUNIDS_map.gif Not to beat a dead horse but i had feeling last nights rains where not going to work out. Uptons map with wide spread almost 2" amounts was way off. The good news moving forward is the soil moisture in sorrounding areas is now high. This increases chances of convection. And occasionally it does workout for us. You just have to go back to the islip mega event
IsentropicLift
My statement about a cool, wet Summer was because of two reasons. First, there is correlation between above average warm, anomalously dry May's and the rest of the Summer. This has been discussed some in the May and June discussions. And secondly, because it's fun to troll Warlock While it's hard to predict the pattern weeks and weeks in advance, the ensembles are certainly pointing towards a wetter next few weeks at least. CPC is interestingly going above normal precip and above normal temps, two that don't often mix.

IsentropicLift
Looks like a pretty decent soaking coming per radar. Some 0.25"+ per hour rates embedded in there. Not moving very fast either, someone could pick up another 0.50"+.
IsentropicLift
Ill go with the cpc So above average rainfall then? Nice

IsentropicLift
Above normal from storms...thats been the rule the past decade You're not going to get above average rainfall in a widespread area from a few rogue thunderstorms. Evidently CPC is expecting some organized convection or tropical system.
IsentropicLift
The rain should overspread most of NNJ and Southern NY within the next hour and reach NYC and LI by 1:30-2:00. Things should begin to tapper off around 10PM tonight per HRRR.

Rtd208
Storm total of 3.36" of rain so far at the closest reporting station in Woodbridge. Looks like we will continue to add to that number at least a little bit today.
nzucker
High of 51F so far today in Dobbs Ferry with steady rain falling. NWS had a forecast maximum of 56F, but doubt we make it there given the intensity of the rain has been higher than expected. Today's high will be 25F below average...the low was 48F this morning, which is around 10 degrees below average. Radar shows a solid area of moderate rain stretching from south-central PA (around Harrisburg) all the way into northwest CT. Can't see how we don't pick up at least another inch of rain. Really incredible storm and temperature regime for June.

IsentropicLift
Looks like an onshore flow day on Friday per the Euro. The models have been waffling back and forth for the end of this week. IsentropicLift
I wonder if that convection down in Delmarva makes it up here tonight. It's slowly chugging along. The HRRR sort of wants to merge it with what is currently over us in about six hours.
IsentropicLift
The epitome of light rain today. Started around Noon and I only have 0.21" on the day so far at work and 0.25" at home.
